The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet has approved a comprehensive plan to restore peace in Kurram district, marred by violence that claimed 133 lives and injured 177. Key measures include setting up 65 checkpoints along major routes, deploying Frontier Constabulary platoons, banning hate-mongers, and confiscating heavy weapons.
A jirga of local elders will mediate to ease tensions, and individuals spreading hatred will face strict legal action, including being listed under Schedule IV. Bunkers will be demolished to enhance security.
The cabinet also announced a relief package for victims, allocating Rs380 million for financial aid to families of martyrs, the injured, and property damages. Additional funds will be provided if needed, with efforts to ensure displaced families return home promptly.
Other approvals include providing bulletproof equipment for law enforcement, urgent medicine supplies via helicopter, and a high-level monitoring committee to oversee the action plan.
The cabinet also approved Rs10 million for families of victims of the Nov 26 D-Chowk firing and Rs187 million for families of security personnel martyred in terrorist attacks.
Additional measures include judicial appointments, funding for security equipment in prisons, and the extension of agreements for helicopter maintenance. The action plan reflects the government's commitment to peace and stability in Kurram and the province.
