Reporting on Addiction Providing resources to the media to decrease stigma in addiction reporting. Launching later this year

We believe that by working with journalists we can improve how they report on addiction. In doing so, we can help communities extensively impacted by addiction better understand that people with substance use disorders are people and that there are too many barriers to treatment and during recovery. Our goal is to create a one-stop-shop for journalists and other media creators when they report on

addiction. We are creating resource guides, a database of experts and training materials for professional and student journalists. All of these resources are designed to reduce the stigma surrounding addiction that has been unintentionally perpetuated. A passion project from 100 Days in Appalachia & The Opioid Policy Institute.

Congratulations to this year's microgrant recipients!

This year’s journalists are Emily Bader of The Maine Monitor, Allyson Dix of Barren County Progress and New Jersey independent multimedia journalist Taylor Jung who will be working with NJ Urban News.

All three will be working to track opioid settlement spending in their communities, holding public officials accountable for the decisions they’re making to use these critical funds.

TEN DAYS LEFT to apply for Reporting on Addiction's 2025 microgrants. Across the country, billions in opioid settlement funds are now flowing into states, cities, and towns — yet how that money is spent remains unclear.

We are seeking applications for our next round of microgrants from journalists in Kentucky, Maine, New Jersey, and New York to investigate how this money is being allocated and spent.

Apply by June 15!
