You'd logically think I'd agree a lot in this video from Bianca Graulau - but this YouTuber indicated local media and has an agenda too... but what am I to know, I don't get broadcast media myself apparently...
She explains her grievances working for Tegna’s KXTV and either oversimplified how the industry works then complains about she wasn’t allowed to cover certain stories.
Local news sucks for sure in many ways, because some of those “stories” had a beef would’ve aired if they had local interest programs (ala Great Day or People are Talking), the other annoying part was how she felt she was working for a network, the networks don’t control affiliates. In terms of stories not airing Tegna is a company of consultants, if they knew what they were doing they’d have your job anyways.
And also she seemed she used Sacramento to go up the ranks, so covering an out of country or state or town story doesn’t resonate with locals, and that defeats the purpose of media. Also she has a really stiff, dead serious delivery. Lacks the ability to smile, that's really important in local for goodness sake!
In terms of going more visual I don’t like the cinematic visuals, drones over copters, CGI over standard Chyrons, and multiple cameras at 24 frames a second. Give me a freckin ENG Camera, get rid of the PR and PIOs, and understand journalists should be pals with the powerful. That part seemed to be totally missed.
She misses the point because she doesn’t get the industry and the role of what local media should play. Stick to print if you askd me. Ground dot news is not for the pros, because we know who owns what and what's more management heavy.
I worked in corporate media for 8 years, and then I quit to create this channel. Here's the story of why I left TV news to become an independent journalist. ...
