From surviving the shadows of my childhood trauma to stepping into the light, I’ve found my voice—and now I use it for those still suffering in silence. My journey has been one of faith, courage, and transformation. EMDR therapy saved my life, and my story—my book—is a testament to the power of vulnerability and healing.

I share my experiences not just to tell my story, but to shine a light for others: to honor the therapists who guide us, to speak the truths we are often too afraid to voice, and to show that bravery isn’t the absence of fear—it’s moving forward anyway.

This is more than a book. It’s a mission. A movement. A declaration that trauma doesn’t define us, but our courage to heal—and to help others heal—does.

I’m stepping onto stages, into communities, and into hearts, spreading awareness, sparking conversations, and reminding everyone who’s hurting: you are not alone, and there is hope. You deserve to heal, and your life matters.

After healing from trauma, some days I catch myself wondering, what’s my new floor now? If life knocked me down again, how far would I really fall? Then I remember: healing isn’t a finish line you cross. It’s something you carry into every day, a practice that shapes who you’ve become. And that’s why the floor doesn’t disappear beneath you anymore, because now it’s built from everything you’ve survived, everything you’ve learned, and the strength you keep choosing to stand on.

I never set out to become who I am today or create the level of success I’ve reached. In many ways, it wasn’t the result of a plan—it was the result of survival. I “trauma-worked” my way here, pushing through without the guidance I really needed.

Back then, I didn’t know how to ask for a therapist, or even that I could. I wish I had one during those years, but I didn’t.

Now, I’m grateful to have therapists in my life who are walking with me in this season—after the success, after the sacrifices. The difference is powerful: I get to heal without the pressure of becoming someone, because I already became them. Now, I get to become who I truly need to be—for myself

“Almost giving up showed me how much I wanted to live — not just survive.”

That’s one of the most powerful lessons I share in my book Out of Fight or Flight. It’s not just my story of trauma and EMDR therapy — it’s about finding hope when it feels impossible.

If you’ve ever struggled with the weight of the past, I want you to know: you’re not broken, and healing is possible.

You don’t have to earn your own love. Be gentle in the highs. Be gentle in the lows. The way you treat yourself becomes your foundation for everything.

For most of my life, I wasn’t chasing success — I was chasing safety. Trauma shaped me in ways I didn’t fully understand until I hit a breaking point and found healing through EMDR therapy.

Today, I get to share that story not just as a survivor, but as a public speaker and author who helps others believe in the possibility of wholeness again.

I’m honored to be featured in Voyage Ohio’s Local Stories series. If you’ve ever wondered what it means to stop running from pain and start moving toward healing, I’d love for you to read this conversation:

I recently came across a post from a survivor reflecting on a question many of us carry:

“I struggle with ‘why?’ Sometimes. Why were my parents abusive? Why was my life pointlessly taken from me by them? Why? Why? WHY? And I have to catch myself before it drives me into a spiral of grief and anger. There is no answer to that question. And there never will be. That’s one of the hardest things for a survivor to deal with. I’m sorry if you relate.”

My heart went out to this person, because I see their pain—and I also see their courage. Here’s what I shared with them:

“I want to honor that you survived. I hold space for you today and the strength it took to carry what should never have been yours to carry. You deserve healing. Too often, people only see us as adults and forget the child inside who endured so much just to make it here. I’m deeply sorry this happened to you.

There may never be a satisfying ‘why’ for the harm you endured, but what I see in you is a survivor who is still standing. That is sacred. I pray you continue finding ways to transform pain into power, and that you are strengthened to gently gather the pieces of yourself that trauma tried to take. You are worthy of restoration, peace, and joy.”

I share this here because I want anyone reading this to know: you are not alone. The child inside you who survived deserves to be seen, held, and healed. Healing is possible. You are worthy of it, and you deserve to reclaim your peace, your joy, and your life.

If you carry questions like these—or the weight of surviving trauma—may this be a reminder that your story matters, your survival matters, and your healing matters.

In a recent discussion, I shared a piece of my personal journey through trauma recovery:

“You are not alone. There are evidence-based therapies, tools, and support that can help you release what’s been carried for too long. EMDR works.”

As someone who has walked this path, I know the courage it takes to seek healing. That’s why I wrote Out of Fight or Flight: A Journey Through EMDR, Trauma, and the Will to Heal—to provide hope, insight, and validation for those navigating their own recovery.

Out of Fight or Flight

For years, I lived in survival mode. Through faith and EMDR therapy, I began to heal, and now I carry a mission: to bring hope and healing to others who are still in the fight.

Out of Fight or Flight is more than a book—it’s the start of a movement to raise awareness about trauma, the power of therapy, and the faith that carried me through.

In the months ahead, I’ll be speaking, hosting workshops, and creating spaces where survivors can feel seen and supported. This is also about honoring the therapists who give so much of themselves to help others find their way back to life.

If this speaks to you, I’d love for you to follow along, share the message, and—if you feel called—join in supporting the mission so we can reach more people together.
