A young man from Thalassery was found dead in his room in Hambar (Sohar). The deceased has been identified as Shanrex Samson (27). Shanrex was working for a private company in Hambar. His friends informed the police, who arrived at the scene and took further action. Officials have stated that the body will be sent back to his hometown after completing the legal procedures. The South Al Sharqiyah Governorate Police Command of the Royal Oman Police has arrested five citizens in connection with a violent robbery in the Al Ashkhara area of Jaalan Bani Bu Ali Wilayat.

The Indian Embassy’s consular visa and passport service centers are starting operations today to provide relief to the Indian expatriate community in Nizwa and Barka. In Barka, the center will be on the ground floor of Lulu Hypermarket, and in Nizwa, it will be in the Nujum Nizwa Mall, near the Lulu Hypermarket. The Regulatory Authority for Public Services (APSR) has warned consumers in Oman against fraudulent activities being conducted in the name of electricity and water service providers. The authority clarified that they do not officially request customers’ bank account numbers, credit or debit card details, or other confidential financial information. APSR advised customers to be cautious of calls asking for their personal details and to be wary of fraudsters who call under the pretext of updating bank information. Furthermore, the authority stated that scams also occur with fraudsters claiming that accounts have been frozen for security reasons, and they instructed people to ignore such calls.

The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) conducted 188,138 inspection visits to markets and commercial establishments across the Sultanate during the first half of 2025, according to the latest statistical indicators issued by its Department of Economic Data and Information.

The visits aimed to ensure market stability, verify suppliers’ compliance with consumer protection laws and regulations, monitor the quality of goods and services, check price data and promotional offers, and detect any violations or unlawful commercial practices.The Governorate of Muscat recorded the highest number of inspections with 62,080 visits, representing more than 33 per cent of the total.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources has announced the start of the annual Kingfish fishing and trading ban, effective from Friday, August 15 to Wednesday, October 15, 2025, across all coastal areas of Oman.The two-month ban is implemented in accordance with Ministerial Decision No. 230/2014 .During this period, all activities related to kingfish—including fishing, transporting, buying, selling, trading, and exporting—are strictly prohibited.The Ministry has called on all fishermen, fish transporters, seafood companies, and fisheries establishments to strictly comply with the ban. It also stressed the importance of registering any kingfish stock with the relevant authorities before the ban comes into effect, as unregistered quantities will not be permitted for sale or export during the restricted period.The Ministry requests all concerned parties to cooperate for the public good and to avoid legal action and penalties against violators.

As alcohol is currently prohibited in Kuwait, it is understood that they purchased the liquor from an illegal seller.
