I have my first sponsor for my podcast!

Anchor, the software I use to record, edit and post episodes, is now also a sponsor.

If you've ever thought about starting a person podcast or one for a church organization, it is a good place to start.

1. It's free.
2. It's easy to use.
3. You can record from your phone, tablet, desktop or laptop.
4. Anchor will post your podcast to their platform as well as Google and Spotify.

If you have questions, feel free to ask.

Both parts 1 and 2 are available now.

In part one, I shared stories of my experiences leading up to the skywalk collapse and that night. In this episode, I share what happened in the days following the collapse. And what changes took place in construction, engineering, emergency response....and in me.

Today is the 39th anniversary of the skywalk collapse at the Hyatt Regency Kansas City.

It was a life changing event for many Kansas Citians. Including me. I was working there that night. I worked at the hotel from 1980 until 1985.

Since I now do a podcast, I felt it was a good time to share my experience of what happened that night. Although I was not in the lobby when the collapse happened, it was felt throughout the hotel. Even on the 40th floor where I was working.

Recording my recollections was emotional and also cathartic. I had often thought about writing the details out into a post or other social media outlet. Speaking about it in my podcast allows me to share it in my own voice.

My story is in 2 parts, each about an hour. Part 1 begins when I first heard about the upcoming Tea Dances. And ends with what I experienced that night.

Part 2 is what happened in the days after the collapse. And how it changed building construction...emergency response...and me. I will post it tomorrow morning.

NOTE: I chose not to get too graphic in terms of what I saw. There's some talk about death, blood and bones.

On July 17, 1981. I was working at the Hyatt Regency Kansas City when a tragedy occurred. It was one of the deadliest non-deliberate structural failures in American History. 114 people died and 200 + were injured. Many more simply survived witnessing and experiencing the devastating effects of this....

Episode 2 is done!
In this episode, I share my thoughts on COVID-19. I also share some stories about how it has affected the restaurant business, the insurance business, and going to church. Finally, I share some thoughts on how we can better deal with the emotional, psychological, and spiritual impacts of this traumatic experience.

Update:

If all goes well, the trailer and first episode of season 1 should be available within the next 10 days! I will let you know when it is available and where to find it other than Anchor.

I can tell you this: I'm loosely calling this first season of 4 episodes Life in the Time of COVID-19.

And I need YOU to tell YOUR story of life in the time of a virus. Literally and vocally.

My podcast is about people...our lives...and our stories. And I want to share with other listeners....

How has the virus affected you?
What challenges has it presented to you?
What solutions have you created or chosen to cope with the challenges placed before you?
Have you experienced a paradigm shift as a result of this virus?
Have you personally SURVIVED the virus?

See that link below? If you want to actually leave me a one minute message sharing your story, click the link. Type in the subject and click the button to record your message. In your voice message, share your first name and your short message. If you want, I can actually include your message in the episode. If not, type the letters FYEO (For Your Ears Only) in the subject.

Alternatively, if you want to just send me your story via email, the email address is [email protected]. Let me know if you want me to share your first name when I share your story.

I need your story no later than Wednesday, April 22nd.

I will devote an entire episode to people's stories about how our lives have changed in the past few weeks. How we've adjusted our routines and transformed our lives due to the impact of this virus. And what we might do differently when the illness and death are not as threatening to our existence.

I've been wrestling with a name for my podcast for weeks.

After survey responses, input from a Facebook podcasting group, advice from a podcasting professional, and numerous checks of databases of podcast names, it finally came to me this morning.

I needed to come up with a name that fit me and the purpose of the podcast. And I had spent a lot of time concerned about people finding it. And suddenly this morning, in my spirit, I heard a voice say...

"Those who are looking for it will find it"

So I finally settled on a name. Here you have it.
A podcast about the lives we live, the life stories we tell and the lessons we learn from them.

Twitter information coming soon.

Podcasts will be available on Anchor, Apple and probably Spotify.
You will be able to listen to the trailer and the first episode in April.
And yes, we need to have a conversation about life in the age of coronavirus.
We need to tell our stories.
And share what we've learned so far.
