Good Morning fans, I am in the middle of writing a world building guide for begginners. Whilst this is not my personal map style, there is a lot of interesting features on it that can be explored.
This small Island map features, 1 Flood Plain, 2 Mountain Ranges, one with human engineering to re-route some of the melt ice into the desert, to create a fresh lake and oasis, that has since been inhabited by settlers along the bank, A Fortified City on the Western Edge of the mountain range, To the north of the desert, we have a nomadic merchant group, One of the few groups willing to traverse these Stepped Lands, As we head slightly more east, Westerly Canal Rivers Flow from the second volcanic range, these cliffside rivers have overflow waterfalls either side, almost completely cutting off the island from itself, (I had thought of adding some cave markers, this would have made the map too busy) however my thought was to have a cave system going from the northern waterfall coming out on the western side of the same volcanic range. Either side of the canal rivers you have small farming villages, the volcanic water and soil making for pristine crop growth, The Central Kingdom, having the super fertile lands, and rare minerals readily accessible, has almost outgrown their piece of land, deforestation and skyward expansion has begun. With the Canal Rivers running almost like rapids, as these waters hit the ocean, it stirs the waves up, that mixed with the islands unusual geographical build up, means these southern waters are also prone to stormy weather. North of this kingdom we have a multi-cliff-face steppe, Definitely worth hiding a secret or two here. We then have a large volcanic range, that bleeds into southern waters creating small mini-islands of pure volcanic rock. these lava flows as you can see run from the middle of the range southward, whilst water runs along ajoining cliff faces to create natural canal rivers. Human engineering? or Natural wonder?
Slightly further east of here, we have a naturally carved Canyon and floodplain, As the tides rise, these canyons fill, as they fall, the canyons become almost empty. creating a daily ecological life cycle.
Between these plains we have another smaller kingdom, upon a naturally occuring defensive structure, between mountains, Flood Plains and narrow bridges, invading these lands becomes nearly impossible. any problems here would likely occur from within.
Finally we have a large forest to the north, this tundra forest that leads to fjords, is bound to have some very interesting use.

I have Just one question.. What do you think will be your parties path through these lands?
