KNOWLEDGE IS POWER;
Reasons why NIGERIA Democracy Day is Celebrated on June 12.
Democracy Day in Nigeria is celebrated Annually on June 12th to commemorates the historic June 12, 1993 Presidential Election, which was widely considered the Freest and Fairest Election in Nigeria's History, though its Results were Annulled.
The Day symbolizes the struggles of Nigerians for a truer Democratic Society and their unwavering belief in the power of Democracy.
June 12, 1993 Election was a Landmark event in Nigeria's Democratic journey, marking the first Presidential Election after a Decade of Military Rule. It was viewed as a major step towards transitioning to a Democratic Government.
The Annulment of the Election Results by the Military Government did not extinguish the spirit of Democracy among Nigerians. June 12 became a symbol of hope and continued struggle for a Democratic Nigeria.
Consequently, Democracy Day was established as a National Public Holiday in 2018, replacing May 29 as the date for Celebration.
The Day is observed with various activities, including Lectures, Seminars, and Cultural events, to commemorate the Democratic Ideals and Achievements.
Democracy Day is a reminder that Participation, Accountability, and Protection of Democratic Value is important for Progress. It is also an opportunity for Leaders to reaffirm their commitment for a Fairest Governance in Nigeria.
Though we are Not at the Democratic level we wish to be at Present BUT we shall be there one day.
God Bless Nigerians, Amen!!!
