“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards.”

My Journey Down Memory Lane in Durham .....

Today was a perfect blend of work and pleasure, and it left me feeling truly inspired.

I had the privilege of starting the day with an inspiring meeting with a person I deeply respect in women’s football. Their passion and dedication to the sport continue to fuel my own drive.

A delightful surprise was bumping into Professor Iain Lindsey from the Durham Department of Sports & Exercise Science, the very program I graduated from.

Iain, it was wonderful reconnecting, I enjoyed our engaging conversation about Sports Policy. I eagerly look forward to our next exchange of ideas.

The day wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the awe-inspiring Durham Cathedral, where I was fortunate enough to graduate 11+ years ago. Standing there, reflecting on my journey and growth since those days, I felt a profound sense of gratitude.

As Steve Jobs famously said, “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards.”

Today, I saw how those dots have aligned to shape my sports career development.

I can’t wait for my next trip to Durham. If you haven’t been, it’s an absolute must-visit!

𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧......

Over the weekend, I embarked on a nostalgic task going through a decade’s worth of paperwork, as a result I discoved my very first podcast brief which I wrote in 2016.

This was the blueprint for what would become “The Sports Industry Access Podcast,” later refined to “The Sports Career Podcast.”

I vividly recall attending a conference in Singapore in 2019 where I delivered my first Sports Career Workshop. When someone asked me the name of my podcast, I replied, “The Sports Industry Access Podcast.” Observing their body language, I realized the name was too long. During my flight back from Dubai to the UK, I decided to simplify and rename it to “The Sports Career Podcast” clear and to the point.

Reflecting while I write this post here are three valuable lessons I’ve learned from this experience:

1.Execute Over Perfection: The excitement of executing an idea often outweighs the pursuit of perfection. Over the years, while my vision remained steadfast, the ex*****on has evolved through feedback and simplification.

2.Embrace Simplicity: In today’s fast-paced online world, simplicity is an art. Refining the podcast’s name taught me the power of clear and direct communication.

3. Reflect and Learn: Rediscovering my podcast brief was a powerful reminder of the journey and growth. Reflection is crucial for appreciating progress and learning from past experiences.

I’m grateful for this reflection on my podcast journey and the insights it has provided. Here’s to embracing simplicity and executing our visions with passion!

Sport Career Tip: Be ready for an unexpected meet ups with people who inspire you and encourage your growth.

Wednesday out of the blue I receive a text from Mary Kok-Willemsen, “Ed just landed in UK, free to meet up for lunch”…. answer was YES and figure out the details later.

I have learned the best experiences are the unexpected , unplanned meet ups.

It makes working in sports so special. For me and Mary Kok-Willemsen all started at the Athens Women’s Football Summit in 2019 which started a friendship I treasure with career guidance I appreciate from Mary’s wisdom.

Mary, it was so wonderful to see you and so glad you experienced parts of London you have not experienced before with wonderful conversations about personal growth and the growth of Women’s Football.

Keep inspiring Mary with your Coaching talent in Business and Football.

I look forward to our next unexpected meet up!!

Celebrating the 9th Birthday of The Sports Career Podcast!

On May 19, 2016, I took a leap of faith and launched my first three podcast episodes.

Pressing that launch button was nerve-wracking, but it taught me the power of believing in the unknown.

Back then, podcasts were a novelty, and many doubted their potential. Despite the challenges and countless lessons learned along the way, I’m grateful for the journey.

A heartfelt thank you to ALL the incredible guests who have shared their wisdom and experiences on the show. Your insights have been invaluable in inspiring personal growth and sports career development for our listeners.

Thank you for believing in my vision that began 9 years ago.

Here’s to many more years of inspiring podcast conversations! 🙌
