Shreveport Police Arrest Suspect In Fatal MLK Drive Shooting, Four Now In Custody

The Shreveport Police Department has arrested Semaj Mitchell, bringing four suspects tied to the August 18, 2025, fatal shooting of Labriesha Patterson into custody.

Charges for each suspect:

* Tywann Gipson (04/03/2008) – Second-Degree Murder
* Deceldrion Gay (04/04/2006) – Second-Degree Murder
* Rodney Thomas (09/12/2005) – Second-Degree Murder
* Semaj Mitchell (Arrested 08/21/2005) – Second-Degree Murder

Police said Mitchell’s visible booking injuries were sustained when he fell from a moving vehicle after allegedly firing at Patterson’s car during the shooting.

Chief Smith praised detectives, stating their persistence and teamwork ensured every suspect involved in the case was identified and arrested.

Going Out Friday Night? So Are Shreveport Police!

Shreveport, La -- The Shreveport Police Department will conduct a DWI checkpoint in East Shreveport on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

This operation is part of the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, aimed at reducing impaired driving and keeping roads safe.

Police urge all drivers to make responsible choices, avoid driving under the influence, and designate a sober driver.
