On Fridays, I normally would go in to do over time for work. But tomorrow, Iāve decided to not go in and instead I'll be supporting the āICE OUT OF MINNESOTAā protest. This is a post I didnāt think I would be posting for the first time this year but damn, a lot has happened and my heart has been heavy for those who are and were affected by Ice and their uncivil behaviors.
Iāve been feeling a mix of anger and heartbreak watching how some immigration actions and political decisions are playing out across our countryāespecially here in Minnesota where I was born and raise in North Minneapolis. What hurts the most is seeing neighbors and families treated with fear instead of fairness. If laws are set for all of us to follow, yet the people leading us are not following them, what makes it fair for any of us to comply? If we did everything correctly and still get treated unfairly and not per law, then why create laws in the first place? Thereās so many questions Iāve ask myself in regards to what is happening in Minnesota but I donāt want this post to be a long rant so Iāll do my own research on the side and will make a different post on it.
All in all, we deserve accountability, compassion, and leadership that values human dignity. Itās hard not to feel frustrated when those in power seem to fuel division rather than unity. Leadership should mean listening, learning, and protecting every citizenānot demeaning or disregarding entire communities. I believe we, the people, have to set the tone for what comes next. We can call out injustice without losing our humanity. We can demand better from every level of government while still caring for one another on the ground. Because at the end of the day, the strength of this country isnāt measured by how loudly our leaders speakāitās measured by how we treat each other when things get tough.
As much as I would love to be present during the protest, for the safety of myself and the cold weather Minnesota will be having tomorrow, Iāll be supporting by not going to work and watching everything unfold online at home. Iām one of the few who hope for the protest to be done in peace, however I know many will be there for other motives or to stir up the situation into a bigger problem when really it is unnecessary to do so. Whatever you plan to do, please be safe, stay warm, and let us all come together, especially my Minnesotan people because we all didnāt need any of this to be effecting our lives.
Instead of "Making America Great Again", I believe trumpit and all the people supporting his way of doing things currently in the United States is actually "Making America Dumb Again." š¤š

Are you ready for tomorrow? If rallying at Target Center to say "ICE OUT OF MINNESOTA" after marching through downtown is on your bingo card, please familiarize yourself with what is and isn't allowed inside the arena. IN PARTICULAR, metal whistles might set off detectors and be confiscated, so leave those at home (or in the car if you are driving).
