Imam Al Sajjad (AS) was asked after the tragedy of Karbala,
“What was the most difficult moment for you?”
He replied:
“Ash-Shaam… Ash-Shaam… Ash-Shaam.”
عندما سُئل: ما أشدّ ما مرّ عليك؟
قال: الشام… الشام… الشام.
What happened in Shaam (Damascus, Syria) after Karbala?
After the tragedy of Karbala, the remaining family of the Prophet (PBUH) — including Imam Zainul Abideen (AS) and Sayyida Zainab (SA) — were taken as prisoners to Shaam, the capital of Yazid ibn Muawiyah.
Imam Al-Sajjad (AS), weak and shackled, was paraded through the streets under the scorching sun.
Sayyida Zainab (SA) walked with the women and children, enduring humiliation, hunger, and grief — yet she carried the legacy of Karbala with strength and dignity.
In Yazid’s court, the heads of the martyrs — including Imam Hussain (AS) — were displayed before the crowd. Yazid tried to mock and belittle the Ahlulbayt (AS), believing he had won.
But Sayyida Zainab (SA) delivered a sermon that shook the palace. She declared:
“By Allah, you will never erase our remembrance, nor will you kill our inspiration.”
In the face of tyranny, they did not remain silent. Their voices in Shaam became the echo of Karbala — and their patience was their revolution.
Shaam was not the end. It was the beginning of truth spreading through chains and sermons.
