We are thrilled to share that our latest project, the Hotel Galactic Reveal trailer for Ancient Forge, debuted at PC Gaming Show 2024 last night 🎉

Drawing inspiration from Studio Ghibli's enchanting art style, we aimed to create a trailer that echoes the storytelling, pacing, and musical depth of classic Japanese anime.

Why Story and Characters Matter More than Graphics and VFX

Sergey Egorov, our Trailer Production Team Lead at Heroic by Room 8 Group recently shared insights from his lecture at the Trojan Horse was a Unicorn Career Camp. Discover why story and characters take precedence over stunning VFX in modern visual art with these key takeaways:

1️⃣ Drama goes first. The most memorable games often are not technological advances. On the contrary, players often prefer dramas like Remember Me, Last of Us, Uncharted, etc. Without deep characters and a captivating narrative, technology alone doesn't captivate players.

2️⃣ Biology drives engagement. Human brains react chemically with hormones when they are emotionally triggered. It makes people, in general, emotionally driven creatures.Once players understand the characters, their motivation, and their challenges, they can easily get into the characters' skin to feel their pain and their joy. Therefore, character experiences are key to a great story.

3️⃣ Abstract Evil no longer works. Players move away from epic battles against the same aliens bent on destroying the Earth to realistic conflicts based on personal character experiences. Modern players are bored of saving the world. Instead, they want to face real fears and enemies they can relate to.

4️⃣ The evolution of the character is crucial. Strong heroes who overcome challenges with laughter and without internal struggles fail to resonate with the audience. The protagonist must go through the journey of changes and challenges, as well as play a vital role in the arc of minor characters, making them better or worse.

5️⃣ VFX should serve the story. While many developers rely on marvelous visuals when creating a story, the action itself isn’t interesting without the dramaturgy. VFX should serve as an enhancing tool for drama, not overshadowing the importance of heroes, struggles, and conflicts in driving the narrative.

Time truly flies when you're immersed in the world of superior gaming experiences! Today, we are thrilled to mark the 1-year anniversary of the Superior Game launch 🎉

It was a fascinating experience for us from the art direction perspective, and we loved working with the Gala Games team to tell this exciting story through the trailer! We created complex animations with choreographed fights that capture the essence of the gameplay, seasoned with anime-style flashback sequences explaining the story.
