Assault 1 Suspect Arrested
Tacoma, Wash. – On May 30, at 4:48 p.m., officers responded to the parking lot of the Boy Scout office, 4802 S. 19th St. to take a threats report. A male had called South Sound 911 to report he had found his stolen property near a homeless encampment to the south in a wooded area. The victim said a male living within the encampment had threatened him when he went to recover his property.
The victim showed officers a picture of the vehicle the suspect was driving. Officers confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen.
While officers were checking the encampment, the suspect drove past the officers at a high rate of speed towards the Boy Scout office parking lot. Seconds later, officers advised Dispatch they heard shots being fired. The suspect vehicle then fled past them, headed back southbound.
Officers went back to the parking lot and determined the victim had fired the shots. The victim told officers the suspect vehicle had been driving toward him at a high rate of speed. The victim said he feared for his life and fired shots at the vehicle.
Officers advised Dispatch the suspect may have been injured and to check local hospitals.
Officers confirmed the victim had a valid concealed pistol license and that the firearm was registered to him. The firearm was taken and placed into property as evidence.
At 5:14 p.m. the same day, officers located the stolen vehicle parked unoccupied near S. 31st and S. Washington St. The suspect was not located. The vehicle was impounded.
On May 31, 2022, South Sound 911 received a call that the suspect was back at the encampment and had facial injuries.
Shortly after 5:00 p.m., officers responded and located the 40-year-old male suspect.
The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment for a non-life-threatening injury.
When released from the hospital, the suspect will be booked into jail for Assault 1 and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
