Grade 11 students brought vibrant energy on the fourth day of Students' Week 2025 through a fun-filled club fair themed "BINGO: A Majestic Carnival Journey" hosted on Thursday, June 26.

The Kamustahan session for grade 11 was prepared by the Supreme Student Learner Government (SSLG), inviting students to explore different clubs that are suited to their interest.

To liven up the spirit of the event, an interactive ice-breaker game titled "Bring Me" led by Sir Drew Louis Tayag, had students racing with excitement for the prize.

Then, the host called on each eight sections from grade 11, as cheers and roars erupted on the covered court.

Soon after, the new batch of SSLG officers were introduced to the student body, stepping into their leadership roles with pride.

Afterwards, all 24 clubs and organizations creatively introduced themselves, encouraging the students to join in their respective clubs.

The ACSci Dance Theater (ADT) lit up the stage with a carnival-like performance, earning cheers and applause from students.

The fun continued with a short Q&A portion, where students expressed their thoughts about their first day of school, favorite teachers and subjects – bringing personal connection in the program.

Afterwards, ACSci Ambassadors of Music (AAM) serenaded the audience with live covers, keeping the excitement alive.

The event concluded with students eagerly swarming around the covered court, checking out club booths, engaging in fun games, and signing up – fully immersing themselves with enthusiasm.

The enthusiasm for Student’s Week 2025 launched with a spirited welcoming for Grade 7 students through an exciting club fair with a theme "BINGO: A Majestic Carnival Journey," held on Tuesday, June 24.

The Kamustahan for Grade 7 students commemorated the opening of the students' week celebration across all grade levels on campus.

The program began at 3:00 PM with an energetic introduction from the elected SSLG (Supreme Student Leadership Government) officers, facilitating unity.

This was followed by the introduction of 24 school clubs, each inviting students to join communities that best aligned with their interests and passions.

The energy rose even more when the ACSci Dance Troupe performed on stage, showcasing their talents and echoing the school spirit, succeeded by ACSci Ambassadors of Music performing for the audience and elevating the carnival-like celebration.

Afterward, students explored various club booths featuring fun games and activities that embraced the carnival spirit.

One of the highlights was the Kamustahan session when students shared how they were settling in with their high school experiences-- "ACSci is the best of the best schools!" one student exclaimed, capturing the excitement present throughout the event's crowd.

According to Marvin Batac, the SSLG president, this is just the beginning as other grade levels fall on Wednesday, while the Grade 11 students participate in the celebration on Thursday.

The following days are expected to fill the court with more musical performances and meaningful moments, therefore making Students Week one to remember for the entire ACSci community.

Pl***oy, revolutionary writer, and apparently a skilled painter and sculptor? Today marks the birthday of the Philippines' national hero, José Rizal. In celebration of his birth, it is about time we recognize his other talents besides writing. Who knew that this polymath had a knack for the arts too!

José Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda, most commonly known as José Rizal, was born on June 19, 1861. Recognized as the national hero of the Philippines, the man possessed multiple and impressive talents. These included, but were not limited to, being a polyglot, ophthalmologist, and writer. His works Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo are the most popular, but did you know that he was something of a painter and sculptor as well?

Rizal was trained at the Academia de Dibujo y Pintura in Manila. During his time in medical school at the University of Sto. Tomas, his artistic skills were further improved and refined, thanks to his anatomy classes. When he was in Spain, the genius studied sculpture, drawing, and art at San Carlos University. His works consisted of sculptures in different mediums such as wood, clay, and plaster. His sketches, on the other hand, were all compiled in a sketchbook he used to take all around the world during his travels. The man had it all, and these artworks were far from amateur. José Rizal did not only fight for the liberation of our country, but also emphasized the importance of the arts for the preservation of culture and the expression of identity. As we celebrate Rizal's 164th birthday, let it be remembered that the arts capture the soul of the human spirit. Angeles City Science High School (ACSci) officially opened the new school year 2025 - 2026 with a Flag Raising Ceremony and a short kick-off program themed "BINGO! A Majestic Carnival Journey!” organized by the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) on Monday, June 16.

The first conducted ceremony of the school year was headed by the SSLG officers, followed by an energizing "Galaw Pilipinas" exercise led by the MAPEH officers and the ACSci Dance Theater (ADT), aimed to uplift the students’ spirit.

After the ceremony, SSLG staff Camille Darlyn Malang and Fermin Gel Bengco served as the hosts for the said event.

The hosts called on the School Principal II Mrs. Marjorie Lacson, who delivered a heartfelt welcoming speech.

"You're destined to be here in ACSci, because you are qualified and equipped. Dala ang pangalan, suot ang uniporme that's why we are champion in all ways," Mrs. Lacson affirmed.

Then, Mrs. Lacson presented the grade level chairpersons, who in turn, introduced the teachers in their respective level.

Following that, the hosts formally introduced the new set of SSLG officers that will maintain the school grounds and help in implementing school-based activities.

Thereafter, the ACSci Ambassadors of Music (AAM) showcased a live cover performance of "Multo" by Cup of Joe, earning cheers and applause from students.

After the event, students returned to their respective classrooms for a room-based orientation to discuss the policies, schedules, and expectations with their adviser and teachers.

This June, two of the most popular destinations for ages 5 to 20 are the beach—and the local National Bookstore! While others might worry about what to buy or how much to spend, students from the Home of the Champions have nothing to worry about, lo and behold, Bigay Aksay! From school supplies to uniforms, a champion is all set for a winning school year ahead.

The Angeles City Science High School (ACSci) Community Pantry (most commonly known as Bigay Aksay) is a project headed by the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG). It takes place every year before the opening of classes during Brigada Eskwela, encouraging generosity and benevolence amongst the student body. People of the ACSci community may either donate or take clothes, school supplies, or any other essentials one may need from the pantry.

In a world where selfishness dominates and empathy fizzles out every minute, Bigay Aksay is a beacon of hope. It reminds people that the youth of ACSci is far from greed and self-interest, and is instead quite the opposite. ACSci youth have a desire to encapsulate change, compassion, generosity, and a genuine desire to make a difference, and Bigay Aksay is a piece of evidence that they are headed in the right path. It is a movement proving kindness lives, and that the future of the world is in good hands.

If you’re an ACSci student looking to give back to your community (and maybe getting something in return), Bigay Aksay is the place to be! Here, compassion is shared, and charity always finds its way back. As the Romans would say, In necessariis unitas, in non-necessariis libertas, in utrisque caritas.

Do you remember your very first lesson in school, back when you were just a little kid? Have you ever looked back to a time when you would learn to read different vowel sounds and syllables? And if you could experience it again today, would you say yes? If so, Angeles City Science High School has its doors open for Brigada Pagbasa!

Brigada Pagbasa is an after-school reading program that encourages students to cultivate a love for reading as well as improve their functional comprehension amidst the alarming decline in literacy rates across the country. By assessing students’ literacy levels, the program identifies learning gaps in order for stakeholders to suggest possible interventions to raise the capabilities of the readers. This initiative prepares the learners of ACSci for a journey through the fast-approaching school year, with books as their companions and guiding light.

This year, ACSci’s language clubs—KaMFil, YRC, and CAC, in collaboration with The Equilibrium and Birtud, have transformed the Math Park of ACSci with a “preschool learning” theme. The space captures a childlike charm through cutouts of flowers, fruits, origami birds, butterflies, and reading signages that transport you back to your kindergarten classroom.

In this new yet familiar setting, we are gently reintroduced to the little dreamers we once were, the curious minds who saw magic in syllables and adventure in every page. Beneath flutters of paper butterflies and blooms of paper flowers, we return to a world where stories shaped our wonder. Here, the world slows down just enough for us to remember that learning once felt like play, and reading was our very first superpower. Because as we all know, reading is a lifelong and fundamental aspect of our intelligence that unlocks limitless possibilities.

The Brigada Pagbasa initiative serves as a reminder that reading is something we should hold dearly in our hearts. It is our perpetual lighthouse towards the places that we live, learn, and aim to reach, explore, and thrive. Filled with hopes and dreams for brighter skies, may we always carry whimsy in our hearts as we traverse through life, and may we continue to hone the skill that has always nurtured our knowledge: reading.

This year marks the 127th anniversary of the Philippines independence from the 333 years of colonization by the Spaniards. Annually, Filipinos declare June 12 a special non-working holiday and engage in social media posts as a way of commemorating the country’s hard-fought freedom. However, as the stack of years of our independence grows higher and higher, the essence of our history in the minds of the youth diminishes in significance, obscuring everyone from the truth of the past.

Our national heroes have risked their lives, and have sacrificed blood, sweat, and tears, just to earn the sovereignty of our land from the Spaniards. The history of the Philippines is indeed rich with traces of Filipinos’ bravery, resiliency, and determination seen in every action they have taken to free the country. With every life lost to death, Filipinos fought their way to freedom, giving the youth a country that is free to prosper and thrive.

For decades now, the day June 12 has sparked the minds of Filipinos, engraving its importance as it is the day we achieved sovereignty, which is automatically the day when there are no classes and work. With social media platforms flooded with thousands of infographics, Filipinos consume this media and call it a day to practice patriotism. Other than those two, there’s nothing that comes to mind that happens every year. This cages our minds into settling for less when there is so much more to explore about our history.

With a lack of education about Philippine History in high school, students have limited access to learning history. The “pag-asa ng bayan” Rizal has quoted has little knowledge of how Filipinos have fought against the colonizers. With the lack of immersive and engaging projects and events from the government, Filipinos find themselves stuck with only stock knowledge about their history and roots.

Filipinos celebrate Independence Day without knowing they are caged from the truth and depth of our history. Making June 12 a holiday doesn’t educate people. Consuming the same greetings with only different publications online doesn’t cultivate the existing knowledge there. As Filipinos, we are responsible for passing the roots of the country’s history to generations to come. If we do not have adequate knowledge to educate ourselves, what is there to be told in the future?

Annually, Filipinos declare June 12 a special non-working holiday and engage in social media posts as a way of commemorating the country’s hard-fought freedom. However, June 12 should not be merely looked forward to as a date where Filipinos get to rest in their homes just because it is a holiday. It should not be just a normal day in the calendar for some. It should be a date that every Filipino wishes to come to learn more and more about our history. It should be a date that not only exists, but also explains the existence of the freedom every Filipino now enjoys.

June 12 should be the day to free the Philippines’ History from the books, empowering every Filipino with pride.
