Giraffes can’t Dance is one of my favorite children’s books because Gerald finds his moves and himself despite others giving him a hard time. This is something I want so badly to teach my kids…that being themselves is more important than what anyone around them thinks or says. ❤️

One of the hardest and most amazing realizations I’ve had since becoming a Mom is just how much I need to work on myself! At the same time, this realization has made me stronger, kinder, braver, more resilient and thoughtful. I am grateful for my kids because of who they are but I’m also grateful for them because of who they help me become.

In our latest podcast episode I talk about how we choose not to use words like naughty and bad when teaching my daughter appropriate behavior. Instead, we try to speak specifically about her actions and how she can do better next time. Since becoming a parent, I’ve learned a ton about how damaging shame can be and how important it is to differentiate between your child’s innate goodness and the fact that as humans we all make mistakes. Mistakes don’t make us bad or naughty people, but it’s important to learn from our mistakes and work to do better next time. If you’re interested in learning more about shame and how to avoid inflicting it on your children, I highly recommend and her podcast, Unlocking Us, as well as the IG accounts , , and

There’s so much information out there about how to parent. It’s incredible to have access to this information at the same time it’s completely overwhelming. How do I hold my kids accountable while not shaming them or damaging their self esteem? How do I parent gently while making sure they know when they did something wrong, even unacceptable?

Dear Moms,

My three year old daughter has been thriving the past few weeks! I’ve been amazed at her emotional maturity and ability to work through tough emotions. But then I found myself thinking: Omg, I broke her spirit!
I laugh so hard about it now. This is SUCH a mom thing to do. Even when my kid starts doing so well I still guilt myself about it! So I’ve decided I need to learn to celebrate my wins. Is it so hard to believe that maybe I’m just doing a good job? Is it hard for you to believe you’re a good mom doing a good job too? I’m sending my love your way. I see you and I’m learning to see myself too ❤️

Xoxo,

Sarah
