In our latest podcast episode I talk about how we choose not to use words like naughty and bad when teaching my daughter appropriate behavior. Instead, we try to speak specifically about her actions and how she can do better next time. Since becoming a parent, I’ve learned a ton about how damaging shame can be and how important it is to differentiate between your child’s innate goodness and the fact that as humans we all make mistakes. Mistakes don’t make us bad or naughty people, but it’s important to learn from our mistakes and work to do better next time.
