KENOSHA COUNTY — The new Medicaid work requirement is a federal rule and a state-built computer system, but the front door for Kenosha County residents will be local.

BadgerCare Plus renewals, changes and proof documents here are processed by the Kenosha Racine Partnership Consortium, the income-maintenance system Kenosha shares with Racine County. Enforcement starts with renewals in March 2027; notices to members whose records suggest the rule may apply are going out this month. Where state data can't confirm someone is working, in school, volunteering or exempt, an eligibility worker has to review the case.

Wisconsin's new Medicaid work requirement starts in 2027. Racine and Kenosha counties say current staff will absorb added work, while FoodShare quality-assurance positions cannot be used for Medicaid work-rule processing.

Kenosha Unified students in K-12 go back Tuesday, Sept. 1, with 4K starting a week later on Sept. 8 — and Frank Elementary has been in session since Aug. 3 on its year-round calendar.

Kenosha County Fair week starts tomorrow — Aug. 19-23 at the fairgrounds, 30820 111th St. in Wilmot, with rides, animals, grandstand shows and daily hours on the fair schedule. Two more Kenosha dates worth marking: Kemper Center's 50th anniversary on Aug. 22, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 6501 Third Ave., free, with a car show, market, concerts and evening fireworks; and a free children's story time at Blue House Books on 6th Avenue on Aug. 30.

About 100 people walked a 3K inside the DeSimone Gymnasium at UW-Parkside on Saturday after rain forced Vonco Products' sixth annual "Walk Where You Are" indoors. Proceeds benefit the Milwaukee American Heart Association.

Kenosha Tremper graduate Manny Rios, a heart-transplant survivor, was there. So were CPR demonstrations — a year after Parkside staff and a student-athlete used CPR and an AED to save a soccer referee who collapsed in cardiac arrest on their field.

Vonco Products, the American Heart Association and UW-Parkside in Kenosha teamed up for the 'Walk Where You Are' heart-health walk and run, with heart-transplant survivor Manny Rios as a special guest.
