COUNT US OUT OF PLOT BY LG CHAIRMEN TO DISRUPT THE PEACE

RIVERS STATE COUNCILLOR'S FORUM

A Communiqué By The Legislative Councils (Councilors' Forum) of Rivers State at the end of the meeting of the Forum held on Saturday 18May, 2024

1 Our attention has been drawn to a purported plot by the Local Government Chairmen to mobilize some miscreants in the guise of Councillors forum to cause mayhem in the state.

2. The Chairmen whose tenure is winding down in few days time, have resorted to making unwarranted and unguided statements to sabotage the government of His Excellency, Ama-Opusenibo Sir. Siminialayi Fubara, GSSRS, KSC.

3. It is on record that His Excellency has paid all civil servants as well as the political class, hence any kind of political sabotage in the guise of
protest amounts to nothing but a nuisance by the Chairmen and the Councilors

4. His Excellency, Ama-Opusenibo Sir. Siminialayi Fubara GSSRS, KSC, the Governor of Rivers State is passionate, dedicated and committed to service delivery to the people of Rivers State, ti can only take those that do not mean well for the State to oppose the proactive and people driven policies of His Administration.

5. His Excellency has paid salaries promptly, and his projects and programs are very visible and people oriented.

6. In fact, there's no better time to speak, than now, on how wicked, greedy and self centered these Chairmen have been in their ill-mannered
treatment meted out on the Councillors and LGAs at large.

7. These Chairmen receive timely huge amounts of allocations and IGRs,yet they have done little to show for it, say for one or two LGAs that actually used the funds judiciously to the benefit of the people of their LGAs.

8. It is interesting to know that, Councillors under the dispensation of these LGA Chairmen have been nothing short of slaves. No wardrobe allowances, no trainings, no car loans, no constituency projects in our various Wards, no severance package, not even a conducive legislative complex for us to do our work, yet, they have the mind to sabotage the efforts of His Excellency.

9. Some LGA Chairmen, up til this moment, have refused to present their Budgets; yet, they have been appropriating funds without following due process. That is how high-handed and corrupt they have become.

10. This is the reason they are illegally clamoring through the back door to elongate their tenure in office, which we (Councillors) are not part of it, and disassociate ourselves from such.

11. Their actions are nothing short of greed and selfishness, as they have planned on how not to pay salaries ni themonths of April and May, but for the intervention of His Excellency.
We wish to thank His Excellency for this kind intervention.

12. In the light of the foregoing, we the Legislative Council Leaders, on behalf of the Councillors Forum, call on His Excellency, the good people of Rivers State and the general public to disregard any group of persons in any guise who plan to cause any form of security breach in the State. We therefore, call on His Excellency to call the Commissioner of Police and the State Director of DSS to beef up security within and around the State.

13. We assure of our unalloyed and unwavering support to his administration, and we are certain that the people of Rivers State are strongly with His Excellency anytime any day.

God Bless HisExcellency, Ama-Opusenibo Siminialayi Fubara GSSRS, KSC.

Long Live Rivers State.

Long Live Federal Republic of Nigeria.

RIVERS ASSEMBLY CONFIRMS IBOROMA AS COMMISSIONER

…Applauds Gov Fubara For Provision Of Alternative Sitting Venue

Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed Dagogo Israel Iboroma, SAN, as a commissioner to serve in the State Executive Council.

The House confirmed Iboroma as commissioner when he appeared for screening during plenary at the Auditorium of the Administrative Block Building of Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday.

This was sequel to the correspondence the House received from State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, who forwarded the name of Iboroma as commissioner-designate, and requested that he be screened.

The commissioner-nominee had been led to the floor of the House by the Sergeant-at-Arms, David Wariboko.

Iboroma, standing before the House, fielded questions, and assured that his allegiance shall be to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Rivers State Governor and the State, while upholding his oath of office and contributing his professional expertise to further the good governance of the State.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, divided the House for voting after the debate over the confirmation of Iboroma.

At the end, the House affirmed confidence in the nominee, and subsequently confirmed him to serve as commissioner in the State Executive Council.

Rt Hon. Oko-Jumbo instructed the Clerk of the House, Dr G. M. Gillis-West, to convey the resolution of the House to the Executive Governor of Rivers State.

The speaker also expressed the appreciation of the House to Governor Fubara for his timely intervention in providing an alternative venue for them to carry on with their legislative duties.

Rt. Hon. Oko-Jumbo condemned the burning of the hallowed chambers of the State House of Assembly by hoodlums in the night of October 29, 2023, which caused a temporary setback in conducting proceedings of the House.

He said, "You will recall that we woke up on October 30, 2023, to see that some hoodlums and miscreants who did not mean well for our dear State and our people had set the hallowed chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly on fire, which caused a temporary setback in the performance of our legislative functions. His Excellency's intervention was indeed swift and timely, and we are grateful."

After the screening and confirmation of the commissioner-nominee, which was the only item on the Order Paper of the day, the House adjourned sitting to Thursday.

Signed:
Dr. G. M. Gillis-West
Clerk, Rivers State House of Assembly
