Helen Gaynor’s short documentary "Calm the F**k Down” is premiering as part of the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival on Wednesday July 16th at 6.15pm at Cinema Nova in Carlton.
SYNOPSIS
In Australia, one woman is murdered by her current/former male partner every 10 days.
Calm the F**k Down explores what drives some men to hurt those they love by filming four female actors in scenarios based on actual family violence events – as the male perpetrator. This role reversal experiment reveals the emotional world these violent men inhabit and the effect of societal expectations on some men, to be what it takes to ‘be a man’.
