**THIS IS FROM ACCOUNT**

My heart hurts so incredibly much for Lauren, and sharing her GFM and Venmo is the only way I am able to help, so I am reposting this information provided by their close family friend.

I don’t personally know Lauren, except through the occasional DM exchange. But she has been nonstop on my mind and heart all week. My heart aches for her, and her family. No one should have to go through such unfathomable tragedy…twice 💔 Life just feels so unfair and cruel right now. I don’t know what else to say.

Please show your support either through their GFM or Venmo. I personally gave through Venmo, but whatever you feel comfortable doing. It’s honestly all we can do at this time, and any amount helps.

“No child will be denied a meal at our schools.” Thank you ❤️ I cried when this email came through. As someone who has worked (and been a student) in low-income schools, this freeze is dangerous, reckless, and unconstitutional. I’m glad we have our local school district on the just side of history, supporting and reassuring families that - regardless of the outcome - they will be there.

On a side note for anyone who feels the need to push back: If you think for a second that there are not large numbers of children in this community who eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at their neighborhood school, you need to face reality. If you think for a second that Teacher Assistants, reading programs, social programs, and other vital assistance are not needed in this community, well, get out of your bubble and get involved…because while you may think federal funds aren’t needed, they are.

I am joining our community in sharing condolences and kind words about the man, the myth, the legend, Oliver X—a true Reno icon. And with a strong reminder that you’re never too busy to just get coffee with someone.

Oliver X took time out of his busy schedule to encourage and support Growing Up Reno-Tahoe when it was still a print publication. Being a new editor and publisher of anything print-related is hard work, especially in a digital age like today. But Oliver X had - at one time - owned and published a beautiful local magazine called Reno Tahoe Tonight. It was a stunning local publication. And when I started the Growing Up Reno-Tahoe, he offered words of encouragement and support in phone calls and over email.

I always felt so honored and grateful for his kind words. He didn’t even really know me, but he took time to send me encouraging messages.

My only regret is I never met him in person. We could never get schedules aligned, and so our conversations were always had over phone or email, even though we always would end with, “Let’s get coffee soon!” It never happened. And now it never will.

To his family and friends, I offer my deepest condolences. It truly is a tragic loss to our community and Reno is Art Town, which he so passionately loved 💔

School is BACK in session 💖 We hope all of you AMAZING, WONDERFUL, SMART, KIND, UNIQUE students (and their parents) had the BEST first day of school 📚🍎✏️📓 PARENTS ➡️ Share in the comments your favorite back-to-school hack that makes life just a little easier for you! Mine is that we keep a bin full of clean socks right by the door (instead of in dresser drawers upstairs) — that way we are never looking for missing socks or running upstairs as we are putting on shoes in the morning!

Saturday morning along Riverside Drive is the perfect start to the weekend 🥰 The has now moved to Sundays at Idlewild Park, which makes it pretty quiet along the Truckee Bike Path on Saturday morning.

My daughter and I love to bring our dog, stop at , and then continue on the path, stopping to watch the river, strike up hellos with passerby’s, and just chat ☕️🐶👧💕 It’s such a nice way to start the weekend! I rarely have my phone with me on these mornings, but I remembered to snap a few photos today! I just love these quality conversations with my ten-year-old! Remember friends, memories are made in these little yet intentional moments ✨

Some tips: Parking is easy right at the McKinley Arts Building too! Be sure to keep littles away from the water — it’s rushing like I’ve never seen. If you bring your dog, bring p**p bags; there aren’t many dispensers.

Name the location! Have you been?! Drop it in the comments ⬇️

If not, let us know and we’ll share the deets! It’s one of our favorite spots in Reno to hike, explore, nature watch, and bike ride ☀️💕

If you haven’t hiked to The N, you need to 🤩 The views are breathtaking, and it’s such an iconic local thing to do. Plus, it’s such an accomplishment for kids to reach the destination, yet it’s only about 60-90 minutes (depending on your speed and direction).

Park at the west end of the Reno Sports Complex at the Evans Canyon Trailhead. Be sure to stop at the National Basque Monument for some local history. Proceed across the creek. You’ll come to a trail marker that’s a bit of a fork on the path. This is where you can decide to either go left (which is a less steep trek to The N), or right (which is a straight shot, but mush steeper). Either way, if you take it slow, even the steeper path should be ok for most kiddos age 6+ (give or take depending on their hiking ability level).

Bring water, wear appropriate hiking shoes, and - if there’s sun - wear a hat! A bonus: at the trailhead entrance is a little kiosk and you’ll find FREE copies of the Truckee Meadows Trails Guide, which has information, maps and more on all the hiking trails in the area 🥾🎉
