Final Gravity Zine

Hey, all. We’re going to do that annoying thing where we ask for support, so bear with us.

We were fortunate, when we launched in 2023, to get a good base of support quickly that allowed us to almost-or-just-barely break even on per issue costs. But we had a lot of startup costs that didn’t factor into that, and the rates we’ve paid for the stories and artwork in each issue have doubled since then. (That last part is good!)

While we’ve gained more supporters over the last few years, that growth has slowed. We are grateful for every single subscriber and supporter and sponsor, but we’re still a little ways from making this project fully sustainable.

Here’s what we want to do:
- Pay down our starting costs
- Make the zine financially sustainable issue to issue
- Increase the rates we pay to contributors
- Expand the zine
- Keep publishing personal, human-centered beer stories written by actual humans

AI doesn't write our stories, and it doesn't create our artwork. People do. Our articles aren’t optimized for SEO or AI or any social media algorithm. They’re stories we believe need to be shared, by people who believe cool things are worth doing. And just about everything in the media environment is against those things happening in 2026.

Here’s what we need to make those things happen:
- More subscribers
- More Patreon supporters (all tiers come with a subscription)
- More sponsors/advertisers
- More visibility

Publishing a print beer zine in 2026 is, as you might guess, not a good way to get rich quick. We do, however, believe it can be sustainable, and we need your help to ensure that sustainability for Final Gravity. If you believe in independent food and drink media, we're asking you to consider subscribing to the zine or signing up for one of our Patreon tiers.

AI doesn't write our stories, and it doesn't create our artwork. People do. Our articles aren’t optimized for SEO or AI or any social media algorithm. They’re stories we believe need to be shared, by people who believe cool things are worth doing.

Our largest expense, by far, is paying our contributors, and we want to be able to raise our rates as we grow. We need more subscribers to fund that.

Final Gravity is a very unique beer publication. We're print-only, and we're telling stories you'd be unlikely to find elsewhere, stories that illuminate corners of the beer experience that are fascinating and unexpected (like dealing with perimenopause in the beer industry, or coping with brewery ownership stress by taking up roller derby, or one brewery’s connection to a cult classic movie from the 90s).

We also refuse to "keep politics out of beer." We've published stories on how breweries can protect employees & patrons from ICE raids, finding trans identity through brewing, one Ukrainian brewer’s resilience in the face of Russian attack, and much more.

How can you help? What we need more than anything is paying readers, so if you can purchase a single issue, subscribe, or sign up for one of our Patreon tiers, we’d be super grateful. If you run a beer-related business, you can also support us by advertising. Links to all of those options can be found on finalgravityzine.com.

We believe passionately in this project, and believe there’s a space for it in the beer world. In the aftermath (and ongoing reality) of beer’s MeToo and BLM reckonings, the fallout of the new administration, and the challenges that have slowed craft beer’s growth and led to brewery closures, we believe beer needs a publication that celebrates what is beautiful in this space and challenges what is not.

We want Final Gravity to be that publication, and we’d love your help to make that happen.
