Radio program Voice of Geauga co-host Jonathan Broadbent offers an update of what some might consider targeting after discussing the Geauga septic system testing program live on air.
Never the ones to shy from controversy, Voice of Geauga hosts Skip Claypool and Jonathan Broadbent discuss issues relevant to Geauga county residents on "Voice of Geauga", that airs 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. every week day on 101.5 FM and 1330 AM.
The following post is submitted by Jonathan Broadbent and is personal opinion/observation...
Harassment. Pure, ridiculous, harassment.
On Friday of last week, Journalist Jeff Skinner joined us on Voice of Geauga to cover recent moves made on the part of Geauga Public Health ("GPH") relating to the roughly 90% of Geauga residents who rely upon well water and septic systems.
[Don't quote me on the 90% statistic; I've heard that figure multiple places and believe it to be true, but have neither the time nor interest to research it - let's just assume it to be true for today's purposes.]
As if on cue, the very next day, in Saturday's mail, I received the following postcard in the mail from Geauga Public Health (image below).
The first thing to know about my nearly new, state of the art, tremendously expensive septic system is that it does NOT require someone to babysit the thing every few months - that's just pure fiction and government overreach.
No, my sewage treatment systems DOES NOT require "2 services each year," by any stretch of the imagination. Do we perhaps have some septic companies sponsoring local elected officials? Call me skeptical, but this is the septic equivalent of government trying to tell everyone they must change the oil in their car every 1,000 miles (preposterous overkill). This postcard appears to be someone trying to find creative ways to spend my money (not far removed from $400,000 office renovations for county employees, or countless other forms of over-fee-ing and taxpayer abuse).
Never mind that the entire system was cleaned out less than a year ago and the most recent visit from my provider was September (which seems to be a clear indication that GPH has no idea what they're talking about... which will likely soon mean that they'll want more money to hire more staff and then buy new computers and train a bunch of people, so that they can then have a dozen MORE salaried employees and pay big money to mail out tons of harassment postcards on a regular basis to keep all the new employees busy. Mark that down as a prediction.)
It seems that for every (rare) issue found with a septic system, there are thousands of families pinched, squeezed, and abused, simply for wanting water. A county body that simply fills mailboxes with costly time-suck postcards like this one is misbehaving, I suggest.
There are growing numbers of people upset with the preposterous nonsense surrounding well and septic in Geauga County - add my name to the list.
