The Gasparilla Inn & Club first opened its doors in 1911 as a modest 20-room establishment known as the Hotel Boca Grande, built by the Boca Grande Land Company. It quickly expanded under the architectural guidance of Francis J. Kennard, debuting as the Gasparilla Inn in the 1913 season.

Built as a refined winter retreat for affluent northern guests, the inn attracted luminaries like J.P. Morgan, Henry du Pont, Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, John Singer Sargent and members of families like the Biddles, Cabots and Drexels. Over time, additional facilities were added: a beach club in 1928, an 18-hole golf course commissioned by Barron Collier and more cottages and recreational amenities—eventually evolving into a full resort retreat.

Mona’s design process is comprehensive and client-driven. It begins with a consultation to determine the scope of work and to identify needs and vision for the space. “Our discovery call is an opportunity to get to know our client and their project vision. We’ll talk through what they are looking for, the type of design services that best fit their needs, and personal style preferences. This initial conversation helps us understand the client’s goals and how we can best support them,” she explains. If the client doesn’t know how to articulate their design taste, Mona helps them extract their preferences through inspiration images, mood boards and style references to see what they’re naturally drawn to.
