This Saturday, we're featuring American Shade!
Adam Schmidt, co-owner along with wife Leah, opened American Shade in 2018. “Our business started in our garage with dreams of owning our own shop one day,” he describes. “We expanded to renting a space and recently completed the process of building our new shop.” Their grand opening was in June. Another reason for opening their own shop was the opportunity to mentor others and build a family business. As Leah explains, “Our core mission is to have every customer leave feeling like they have been treated like family. We aim to provide the best services and products while taking pride in our work.” American Shade offers residential, commercial and automotive window tinting ensuring durability, energy efficiency, and aesthetic appeal.

For the Richardson family – Jason, Denise, Chloe and Bailey – life with dogs Boozer and Beaux is equal parts love, laughter and chaos. These yellow English Labs, both 3.5 years old, came into the family's life during the heart of the pandemic after the heartbreaking loss of their previous Lab to cancer. “We went to Castlerock Kennels in Kittrell intending to adopt just one,” says Denise, “but Boozer’s little brother was the only puppy left, and we couldn’t bear to separate them. So, we brought them both home – and instantly doubled the puppy energy!”

Make-A-Wish of Western and Central North Carolina held their annual WishBall in March. Did you know that each wish costs an average amount of $10,000?
This year the event raised over $2.1 million, which will fulfill 209 wishes for local children. These wishes give children the hope and strength they need to fight, or even overcome, an illness. It also helps unite families in life-changing moments and help them cope and grow stronger.
