HE REINVESTED WHILE OTHERS WERE SPENDING
For many years now, one name that has continued to inspire a great many people in this country is Obinna Iyiegbu. He is known as Obi Cubana. Back in the early 2000s in Abuja, he had very little to his name. He was running a modest club and handling event promotions. People did look down on him and wondered what he was about. But Obi did not see himself as merely an events chap. In his mind, he had already pictured himself as a man building an empire.
Whilst others were simply taking the money and spending it as it came, Obi was quietly studying the business. He observed that Nigerians did not merely want drinks and music. They wanted an experience. They wanted status. They wanted a place where they could feel like royalty. So he made a firm decision: "I shall build establishments where people feel proud to walk in."
He began to save diligently. He began to reinvest every penny. He began to cultivate relationships with people of like mind. Some called him overly ambitious. He called it vision. Some said it would never work. He proved them wrong. Every bit of money that came into his hands, he did not waste. He planted it right back into the business.
Today, one need only look at Obi Cubana. The Cubana Group now spans nightclubs, restaurants, hospitality and real estate. He employs thousands of people both directly and indirectly. What changed? Was it the government? Was it the economy? No. His mindset changed first. And once his mind changed, his money followed suit.
Your bank balance will never rise above the level of your thinking. It is the very same mind that keeps saying "there is no money" that is blocking the money from coming in. The power to create wealth has been within you all along. It was simply locked away. You have been settling for so little because you have been thinking so little.
It is not about how much you have in your hand. It is about the picture you have stamped upon your mind. Until you begin to see yourself as a person of assets, ability and tremendous potential, nothing will change. You are far greater than you imagine yourself to be. There is no limit to how high you may go, save for the limits you place upon yourself.
Therefore, decide what it is you want. Write the plan down. Impress it deeply upon your mind. Rise each morning and work it diligently. Do not chase after money. Rather, become the sort of person that money chases.
We build the mind first. The money will most certainly follow.
