Our war heroes died preserving freedom and democracy. They lost their lives to make this country and indeed the world, a better place.

It’s time to stop talking Britain down. It's time to really appreciate the sacrifice that other others made on our behalf, so that we can enjoy the freedom and democracy that we enjoy today.

I have to ask myself whether the TikTok obsessed social media generation would be up for doing the same thing

Jacob Rees-Mogg - “They did well because the British gave them the rule of law, democracy and capitalism.

“The British Empire was an amazing force for good for civilisation and for raising people’s standards of living. So why should we have to pay for doing that? Surely we should be paid.”

Backbench Labour MPs have hit out at Starmer for his 'colonial mindset'

Mark Francois - “It was inevitable that after the abject surrender of the Chagos Islands - for that is what it is - the Spanish would try and exert pressure on Gibraltar.

“Hon. members shake their heads, the Government is so embarrassed by the Chagos deal they won’t even tell the House of Commons what we’re going to have to pay to rent back our base!

“Under Blair, Labour tried to sell [Gibraltar] out for joint sovereignty, and a referendum killed it. So as we couldn’t trust you on Gibraltar before, why on earth - after what you’ve done to Chagos and the Chagosians - should we trust you now?”

Tory MPs tore into the Government over a recent border stand off with Spain in Gibraltar.

The British government’s decision to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius is a profound strategic error, rooted in a misunderstanding of international law and a failure to protect the UK’s vital national interests.

It will undermine the overwhelmingly strong legal case for the UK’s continuing sovereignty in relation to a number of other crucial British territories.

The government’s decision erodes sound legal principle for the sake of short-term point-scoring in an irrelevant diplomatic game. The government has blundered - Parliament and the public must hold it to account.

Boris Johnson - “It's crazy. I urge viewers to get out your maps, get out your atlases, check out the Chagos Islands, see where they are, and see where Mauritius is.

"It's nonsense. It's total nonsense. Why are we doing this? Sheer political correctness, a desire to look like the good guys. The desire to look as they were unbundling the last relics of our empire. It's nonsense.

"It's a bad idea in hard geopolitical terms because the base in Diego Garcia is, I'm sure you know, for all our viewers know, is of huge strategic importance for the US, for the West. And it's a key component of the Anglo-American alliance. It's one of the things we bring to the table, and has been for decades that base.

"Why are we trading away our sovereignty over Chagos? Completely the wrong thing to do."

Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson has weighed in on Labour's surrender of the Chagos Islands, branding the move "total nonsense".Speaking to GB News, Johnson slammed Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, claiming the Labour Government are "trying to look like the good guys".Johnson told host Camilla To...

Suella Braverman - “This is a shameful decision. Keir Starmer's reckless capitulation over the Chagos Islands severely undermines UK national security.

“We all knew Lammy was weak but now it’s official: he’s China’s useful idiot too. A dark day for our country’s sovereignty.”

Suella Braverman hit out at the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs over the policy, which was initially started in 2022 under Rishi Sunak's Government

James Cleverly - “Progressives say how proud they were of the UK that we had a PM of Indian Heritage and a Home secretary of African Heritage, a trade secretary of African Heritage, a former Home secretary that was Muslim - that is a direct repercussion of Britain's imperial past.

“That would not have happened had the British Empire not existed.

"So you cannot in good conscience be proud of the ethnic diversity at the top of the British establishment for one of a better word, without also recognising that this country's amazing history was instrumental in delivering that."

The former Home Secretary said he found it "baffling and counterproductive" that leftwing politicians and activists appeared "to hate" their own country

Britain needs to urgently breathe new life into the Commonwealth, starting with the Realms and extending to the republics. With a new monarch in Charles III the time is even more ripe.

If Reform UK and the Tories want a dynamic positive policy to unite Britain's disparate communities and shame an EU-focused Labour administration into action it could do a lot worse than champion this long-neglected but still pivotal organisation.

The Labour Party should be even more enthusiastic about a multicultural Commonwealth which spans the entire planet, says Jonathan Saxty.

Martin Daubney - “It's probably not a good idea to go to a military town and call people fascists and N***s. Bear in mind, a lot of them have armed forces experience and their relatives died fighting actual fascists.

"Please come on the show Socialist Workers Party. Come and sit in this chair and let's have a debate. While you think that is a good tactic, tell me why I'm wrong.

"Come on this channel and let's have this conversation. Man or woman, whatever. Let's have this chat if you've got the guts."

We should not be giving away important elements of our cultural history just to satisfy another country’s nationalistic fantasies; this is not culture, and museums should have no part in it.

Nigel Farage - “So 14 Squadron, the Royal Air Force, involved in two World Wars, and busy today with intelligence and reconnaissance.

“Their nickname is the Crusaders. But a senior boss in the Royal Air Force has decided that name now has to be dropped because it might cause offence to Muslims.

“I wonder whether in Saudi Arabia, they are bending to our culture and our way of life? I wonder even more deeply why we are literally giving in on virtually everything. Tell me I’m wrong.”

Nigel Farage thundered against the change in a video posted to social media platform X.

We're faced with the possibility of being at war in the next five years without the means to wage it in a satisfactory manner. The only light on the horizon was Sanders, who has been replaced by yet another small unit-oriented officer who is destined to repeat the errors of the past two decades.

It's enough to make you weep.

Fabian Picardo - “Nothing is going to change as a result of a football match, or something a footballer in his 20s says - whether holding the European Cup or not.

“Nothing is ever going to change. Our culture is going to stay British.

"This is just utter nonsense, but it's deeply offensive, deeply discriminatory, and not the sort of thing that we should see surrounding the magnificent sport of football, and such an excellent win on the pitch for Spain.”

Picardo said the chants were 'utter nonsense, deeply offensive [and] deeply discriminatory' and vowed the Rock would remain British

Clive’s actions undermine our constitutional traditions. Labour should withdraw the whip immediately. This man should not represent the party of government.

The faithful are rightly concerned about this voluntary expense, since three-quarters of the Church of England’s operating expenses are funded directly by donations from worshippers in the Church’s 14,000 parishes.

This plan appears to be based on an essentially racist reading of history – that white people are all bad and the oppressors, and black people are nothing more than victims. It is anti-Christian.

Leaders of the Church of England have been scrambling to assure the faithful that their proposed £1 billion fund for slavery reparations will not come from donations to parishes.

William Clouston - “I believe successive governments response to the military is yet another example of where our elite progressive ruling class is completely out of touch with popular sentiment.

“There is a way to correct such a misalignment... it's called a general election and I urge voters to think hard, back Britain's military and vote accordingly.”

Patrick Sanders - “Warfare on this scale, if that’s within living memory, there is every prospect, if you look at the pattern of history, that it could happen again.

"I think the importance of this D-Day memorial event is it’s a reminder that preparedness is absolutely critically important and to do things at this scale, there’s a whole-of-nation effort.

"Just two weeks ago, I was visiting our troops over in Poland. That’s 16,000 British soldiers deployed across ten countries in Europe.

"That is the largest deployment the British Army has done with Nato since the 1980s. So we are unquestionably more ready, but there is more to do."

General Sir Patrick Sanders said the Second World War is like 'ancient history' to young people

King Charles - “How fortunate we were, and the entire free world, that a generation of men and women in the United Kingdom and other Allied nations did not flinch when the moment came to face that test.

“On the beaches of Normandy, on the seas beyond and in the skies overhead, our armed forces carried out their duty with a humbling sense of resolve and determination, qualities so characteristic of that remarkable wartime generation.

"Very many of them never came home, they lost their lives on the D-Day landing grounds or in the many battles that followed."

US President Joe Biden took aim at Russia and Vladimir Putin in his speech, and the world leaders also heard from veterans themselves, including one who paid an emotional tribute to the friend who saved his life.
