There is a great new photographic exhibition on at the Victoria Gallery & Museum, part of the Museum of Liverpool, celebrating the many black musicians from Toxteth/ Liverpool 8. Called TOXTETH: THE HARLEM OF EUROPE, it details so many great musicians and singers from Liverpool 8 who had success, locally, nationally, and internationally.

I have been honoured to be included in the project team as a historian for a couple of years, working on a documentary film, and this is part of that project. It is a superb exhibition and it is on until August 2026, so don't miss this opportunity to see it. The photos are great, and each caption includes a QR code that links to a filmed interview. One of those is our interview with Joe Ankrah which was filmed by Roger Appleton.

Featured people like Lord Woodbine, Joe Ankrah and The Chants, Ramon Sugar Deen, Carol Phillips, The Real Thing and The Christians plus many more.

On Friday, Lord Woodbine, Beatles mentor and manager, was finally recognised for his part in The Beatles Story with a plaque unveiled at The Jacaranda Club in Slater Street.
