A DISMAYING PENALTY
Note that there is quoted racist language.
Our video telling a trivia on a notorious South Parksode was removed from our on account that it violates hate speech.
The video contained quoted racist slurs which were spoken without censorship but with a context: educate others on racism and how did South Park do the same. If you are about this specific South Park episode, it is the one where Randy Marsh (Stan’s father) faces social pariah lifestyle after he used the slur “ni**er” on Wheel of Fortune. Such episode was inspired by the 2006 Michael Richards incident at the Hollywood Laugh Factory, wherein the Senfield actor, then in active stand-up comedy, yelled the racial slogan “he’s a ni**er” and “a ni**er look there’s a ni**er” at a small party of black and Hispanic audience members who heckled him.
We quoted the slurs in the trivial video, not with malice but with intent to help people learn. Now, although the words were hurtful, context matters. We have included warnings on quoted slurs and urged people to be careful when watching. We, nor our founder James Dimaiwat, did not promote or glorify racism, rather, we used the specific South Park episode as a topic to help others speak out against racism in all forms.
We have been using TikTok for years as a platform to help people learn. However, we see this removal as inappropriate censorship, wherein people telling the truth and educating the masses are often silenced and given strikes.
We condemn all forms of bigotry and racism and we do not support racist organizations. However, we also wish to stress that censoring people who tell the truth is already xontrary to TikTok’s intended goals.
An appeal has been submitted and we are awaiting results.
