When you’re committed to both poor decisions and finishing hot french fries…

On the 4th of July, RPD got a call from a local drive-thru after a customer was slurring his words and aggressively honking for his food. Officers located the suspect a few miles away, but instead of pulling over right away, he led them on a short pursuit.

When he did finally stop, he was cooperative… kind of. He kept putting his hands out the window — then pulling them back in to shove french fries into his mouth. Hands out. Fries in. Repeat.

We get it — fries are sacred, especially when they are hot and fresh. And when you are driving impaired, it may be your last meal before county jail cuisine.

Friendly reminder: Don’t drink and drive. And maybe save the snack break for after the traffic stop.

Good Morning! 🌞 Wanted to send out a friendly reminder to NOT engage in road-rage...🤯 Surprise Surprise right?!?😲Believe it or not, it's not a good (or safe) activity. We get that there is always two-sides to a story and the other guy deserved it...blah blah blah! 🫣 JUST DON'T DO IT! Yep...that means you have to wave 👋🏼 with all fingers and not brake-check or cut people off. Sorry! More often than not, road-rage ends in disaster. Please be courteous and drive like a grown-up 😃 Happy Monday🤩

Fireworks? Not in these hills.
Dang! – Joe Dirt (probably, if he lived in Auburn)

ALLLLL fireworks are illegal in Auburn. Yes, even the “safe and sane” ones.

(Newsflash: setting anything on fire during peak wildfire season in the Sierra foothills is neither safe nor sane.)
And no, lighting a sparkler while shouting “Merica” doesn’t make it legal either.

Still feeling the urge to light your snakes and sparklers?
Cool, pack up your box of disappointment and head to your mom’s house down the hill where that might still fly. Around here, we prefer our city fire-free and our Fourth of July not followed by mandatory fire evacuations and awkward court dates.

So what should you do instead?
Glad you asked, firestarter! 🔥 🔥 🔥

Join us for Auburn’s official July 4th fireworks show at the Gold Country Fairgrounds @ 9:30 P.M. It’s big, it’s loud, it’s legal, and no one ends up explaining their decisions to us, Auburn City Fire Department, a judge, or their neighbor when they burn down their shed and half their fence trying to light a “harmless” fountain.

July 4th fireworks show: Professional. Legal. Loud. Spectacular.

So, unless you really want to be featured in the “Guess Who Started That Fire” edition of the Auburn Journal Newspaper, maybe—just maybe—leave the pyrotechnics to the pros. Auburn doesn’t need any more Darwin Award nominees this year.

Life’s a garden… dig it. Just don’t set it on fire.
