29 years ago today, Les Rallizes DĂ©nudĂ©s players their final show at CLUB CITTA’.

This original flyer from 1996 features a still from an 8mm film shot by Takehiko Nakafuji. A treasured gift from Nakafuji-san.

đŸȘ© BACK IN PRINT đŸȘ©

First reissued by Temporal Drift in 2022, Les Rallizes DĂ©nudĂ©s’ ‘77 LIVE is finally back in print on vinyl. Between the group’s formation in 1967 at Doshisha University in Kyoto and their last-ever show in 1996 at Club Citta in Kawasaki, only three official albums were released. ‘77 LIVE is widely considered the pinnacle album of this era. Produced by Mizutani, these almost-mythical albums provide a window into the (in)famously impenetrable band’s first decade of existence.

‘77 LIVE captures the glorious noise of the Rallizes at their full potential. Recorded on March 12, 1977 at Tachikawa Social Education Hall in Tachikawa, Tokyo, ‘77 LIVE showcases Mizutani’s unmistakable, overdriven, feedback-drenched guitar, played on a newly purchased Gibson SG, soon to become his signature guitar. The set includes wholly transformed versions of “Memory is Far Away” and “The Last One,” with a hypnotic, oversaturated sound that is best defined as “over level.”

Produced in collaboration with The Last One Musique, ‘77 LIVE features three records of remastered audio by former Rallizes member Makoto Kubota and liner notes by Yuasa Manabu, all housed in a premium tri-fold jacket.

To order the 3LP set, comment OVERLEVEL and we’ll DM you the link. đŸ–€

đŸȘ© The photos of Jittoku above, featured in the vinyl and CD packaging, were taken in 2025 by former Les Rallizes DĂ©nudĂ©s member Kyo Nakamura (). When the Rallizes played at Jittoku  in 1976, it was in a way a homecoming for the Kyoto-born band, who had moved their home base to Tokyo several years earlier. Here’s an excerpt from the Jittoku ’76 liner notes by Waki, which describes Jittoku in more detail:

“In 1976, when they were searching for a place to play in Kyoto, the Rallizes found Jittoku.

Occupying a renovated old traditional storehouse, Jittoku’s interior was lined with earthen floor that kept the air cool and filled the space with a pleasant chill. At the time the venue booked mostly blues and solo performers, which made it all the more extraordinary that a strange, deafeningly loud rock band would be allowed on stage there. And it was a two-night stand, no less. This space known as Jittoku has some peculiar quirks. It’s been said that when large guitar amps were used, the stage could not contain all the members of the band, forcing the drummer to set up the kit on the earthen floor below.”

If you haven’t ordered a copy yet, comment JITTOKU and we’ll DM you a link to pick up the 2xLP or CD tomorrow on Bandcamp Friday. đŸ–€

I’m happy to report that my next show in Los Angeles city limits will be on December 13th with the great Mark Robinson and Les Sewing Sisters!

Mark is known as the singer and guitarist in the remarkable groups Unrest, Air Miami, Flin Flon, etc, and on the numerous records he’s made under his own name. Most recent records as Uncomfortable Police. As well, he’s been releasing incredible records by tons of other great artists on his own Teenbeat record label. He’ll be playing songs he’s written throughout his catalog solo, just voice and guitar. And as I mentioned, this will be Mark’s first show in Los Angeles in over twenty years. Rare!

This will be my first show in town with a new reconfigured live presentation for my music that I’m quite excited about. We’ll be playing right in the middle of things.

And opening the night will be the incredible Les Sewing Sisters. Two women, two sewing machines. 100% genius.

Happening at Permanent Records Roadhouse on Saturday, December 13th.
$12 advance, $15 night of.
