Gang-Related Mass Shooting Leaves 3 Dead, 11 Injured at Crown Heights Nightclub
Police in Brooklyn are investigating a deadly mass shooting that occurred early Sunday morning, August 17, inside Taste of the City, a restaurant and nightclub in Crown Heights. The incident, believed to be gang-related, left three people dead and at least 11 others injured.
The shooting broke out around 3:30 a.m., prompting a flood of 911 calls reporting multiple gunmen opening fire inside the venue. Officers arrived within minutes to find several victims; 42 shell casings were recovered from the scene, indicating a high volume of gunfire.
The deceased include:
Marvin St. Louis, 19
Amadou Diallo, 27
Jamel Childs, 35
Police say St. Louis and Childs were among the shooters, engaging each other in a gunfight. Surveillance footage shows them speaking shortly before St. Louis opened fire, prompting Childs and two other gunmen to join in. Both St. Louis and Childs died from their injuries.
Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed that at least four shooters were involved and that Childs and three other victims were identified as members of the Folk Nation street gang, which has been linked to several shootings in Brooklyn this year. St. Louis reportedly had no prior criminal record.
Additional gunshot victims later arrived at hospitals, raising the total to 14 people shot. Most of the survivors are in stable condition.
Taste of the City had previously experienced a non-fatal shooting last November, and some local residents are now calling for the club to be shut down due to ongoing violence.
Authorities are still searching for the two remaining suspects, and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
