Today marks the anniversary of the fall of Sergeant Omer Ginzburg, of blessed memory.
Omer, the eldest son of Maya and Tzachi, brother to Yotam, Matan, and Leori, and beloved partner of Mika, grew up in Kiryat Tivon.
Omer was an anchor and a shining light in the lives of those around him — a true friend you could always count on, who always thought of others before himself.
He loved life and strove to live it to the fullest, to enjoy and have fun, and always saw the glass as half full.
Omer enlisted on August 10, 2023, in the Paratroopers Brigade, where he was deeply respected and loved by his friends and commanders — a quiet leader and the backbone of his team.
In February 2024, Omer entered Gaza for the first time with his battalion as part of the ground maneuver. With his company, he took part in securing Operation Arnon and in other battalion missions.
In August 2024, the Paratroopers Brigade operated in Khan Younis with the goal of destroying terrorist infrastructure and rescuing hostages. During the mission, his company was stationed in an area securing the logistical route.
On the afternoon of August 11 — one year and one day after his enlistment — Omer was killed by sniper fire. After fighting for us and falling for us, even in death, his organs were donated to save lives.
Omer was 19 and a half years old when he fell.
Mika followed in Omer’s footsteps and currently serves in the IDF as a “Negev” light machine gun instructor in the 101st Battalion of the Paratroopers Brigade — the very same battalion Omer served in.
We will always remember Omer, especially today. May the memory of this hero of Israel be blessed 🇮🇱
