Out of the covid lockdown her second album is another great example of modern pop music. From the emotional yet danceable Overdrive to the catchy Want Want.

Transatlantic - The Absolute Universe

A fantastic final outing for the modern prog supergroup. I hope that there will be a reunion at some point, but if not what a way to bow out!

A spacey classic from some of prog rocks unsung heroes. Beautiful melodies and great performances, what more could you ask for!

Porcupine Tree - We Lost the Skyline

A lovely stripped back live recording of just Steven Wilson and John Wesley (whose contribution to the band should never be overlooked). Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers

First listen for me. The MKII lineup reformed and produced a solid album with some spectacular tracks. Whilst the production sometimes feels a bit off there are still some epic moments, the title track in particular stands out as a classic.

Giles, Giles & Fripp - The Cheerful Insanity of Giles, Giles & Fripp

The early spark of what would become King Crimson. This new edition without the spoken word sections is much more enjoyable, it is quaint and thoroughly of its time but I enjoyed enough to listen again.

Black Sabbath - Sabotage

After this week’s sad news I made a point of giving some Ozzy fronted Sabbath a listen. First listen for me and it surprised me with how forward looking and progressive it was whilst retaining those hard hitting riffs. A superb album I should have got around to years ago.

Whilst I’ve always said I preferred the Dio years I must admit that those early albums were far more important in terms of shaping metal as a genre. Ozzy transcended music becoming an icon and his passing is a huge loss to the metal community.

Avantasia - The Metal Opera

First listen for me. A band I probably should have gotten around to sooner, it is a spectacular example of symphonic metal that I absolutely recommend!

Jeff Beck - Blow by Blow

First listen for me. Sublime musicianship, but it can be overwhelming at times, definitely one that will grow over future listens.

A thunderous intro for the MKIII lineup. The title track is just superb!
