DNS TUTORIAL for MelonDS
(NOV 2023 update)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Download the latest version of MelonDS

Open your Gen 04/ Gen 05 Pokémon game, and scroll down until you see
Nintendo WFC Settings
>>Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings
IMPORTANT: ERASE ALL CONNECTIONS until all of them say None
Then choose one of the None boxes, and click
Search for an Access Point.
At this point, there is only one, which is
melonAP
Select it and press OK.
It will do a connection test, but may fail.
Ignore it
Click which Connection you chose for melonAP.
Scroll down and make sure Auto-obtain IP Address is YES
Then scroll down and change Auto-obtain DNS to "NO"
and edit PRIMARY AND SECONDARY DNS to
178.62.43.212
then Test Connection,
If the connection is successful, congrats!
then Save Settings

At this point, your emulator can now go online 🙂

Return to your game, go to the Pokémon Center, and go to the WiFi Club.
For Gen04, it is downstairs. Talk to the lady in the middle.
For Gen05, it is upstairs. Talk to the lady in the middle.
The FIRST time you log the WiFi Club,
JUST SPAM THE A BUTTON UNTIL IT ERASES YOUR PAL PAD FRIENDS LIST AND RESETS YOUR OWN FRIEND CODE.
If you get an error at this point, please let me know, and I will try my best to help you.
If everything was successful, you will be asked to leave the WiFi Club.
You may now add Friends in your Pal Pad.

With this DNS server, you can:
Interact with the GTS!
Grab events in the Mystery Gift!
Add your friends up on Pal Pad!
Trade and battle with them!

"WHAT IS THE PAL PAD???" It is Nintendo's old Friend system.
"WHERE IS THE PAL PAD???" It is a Key Item in your inventory.

TUTORIAL FOR CONSOLE USERS
For Gen04 specifically, you just need a WiFi without a password due to the technology limitations of its time.
For Gen05, make sure your WiFi is 2.4g or a 2.4g/5g hybrid, otherwise your console might not see the connection.

Follow Step 2.
For Step 3, When you search for an Access Point, select your own WiFi/Hotspot (without password for Gen04)
