In 2016, as the world was chasing digital creatures through parks and sidewalks, one animal shelter had a brilliant idea:
👉 “If you don’t want people to know you’re out playing Pokémon, rent one of our shelter dogs for $5 an hour — it’ll look like you’re just walking your pup.”
What started as a funny marketing twist turned into something incredible:
1️⃣ So many people showed up that the shelter built a waiting list for dog-walking “rentals.”
2️⃣ Adoption rates soared, with some players realizing they’d fallen in love and refusing to bring their dogs back.
3️⃣ Pictures of Pokémon trainers with shelter dogs flooded Instagram and Facebook — and people began requesting to adopt the specific pups they saw online.
The result? In just weeks, nearly every dog in the shelter had been adopted. The program was such a success, they even brought in dogs from other shelters to keep up.
Sometimes, the best partnerships are the ones no one sees coming. Pokémon Go didn’t just get people outside — it helped countless dogs find homes. 🐾
