On 24 September 1942, American sailors, survivors of the perilous Arctic Convoy QP 14, gather with their mascot, Lassie, at Scapa Flow, Scotland, after returning from Arkhangelsk, Russia. This convoy, part of the Allied Arctic operations, faced brutal weather conditions, frigid seas, and the constant threat of German U-boat and air attacks as they journeyed to supply the Soviet Union on the Eastern Front. The bond between the crew and their faithful companion, Lassie, offered comfort and morale amid the dangers of wartime. The Arctic convoys, though treacherous, were vital in maintaining the Allied supply chain and supporting the fight against Axis forces on multiple fronts.

Sgt. Allen Desailles Glover, a gunner with the 753rd Bomb Squadron, 458th Bomb Group, completed six missions aboard the B-24 Liberator 'Big-Time Operator' (41-29288) before his forced retirement. After earning the Air Medal, Glover admitted to his crew that he was only 16 years old, having lied about his age to enlist. Later, he served during the Korean War, flying in B-26s, where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
