We’re decoding the NY Post vs. Pura Vida Miami controversy so you don’t have to.

This is one of the clearest PR crisis lessons we’ve seen in hospitality — unfolding publicly, in real time.

It’s been 6 days since the New York Post went live with the investigative headline:
“NYC health food chain Pura Vida’s tuna sandwich has 4× the fat of a Big Mac: dishes ‘deserve jail time.’”
And there has still been no public statement or response from PurVida Miami to its fans.

What began as scrutiny of one menu item escalated fast. Follow-up coverage — including Eat This, Not That — expanded the comparison to six menu items, reframing the narrative to suggest fast-food brands are offering “healthier” options.

📊 That’s how America learned these stats:
🥪 PurVida Miami tuna sandwich: 145g fat
🍔 McDonald’s Big Mac: 34g fat
🍩 Dunkin’ glazed donut: 11g fat

This is what happens when silence lingers.
