A few years ago I introduced a new DJ booth design. I wrote a caption discussing how the design elements and inspiration stemmed from shapes, curvature and proper proportions. This was during a time when a popular trend in the DJ community was to make or buy a “TV Booth”. For those unaware, this is a TV in the front  of the setup where you can put some sort of custom design. To be honest, looking back I was overly critical of these designs. However, a few years later my stance remains the same: they are still ugly. Once a screen is introduced, the look is cheapened. 

Fast forward to this release. `I call this one the “Dune”. One day I was walking into Wychmere and fell in love with the fluted vertical design on the main bar. From that point forward I entered my engineer mode and figured out how to carry this design into the DJ space. I am really excited about this drop, I think it would be difficult to create something better for the space. Finally, you don’t lose the “customization” aspect because most of my clients opt to get the custom vinyl records as an added bonus.

So all I’m saying is, keep the TVs for the living room. “Click” 📺

I think most bands offer a DJ in some capacity. In my experience, this DJ primarily plays during band breaks while the band members go eat or smoke cigs in the parking lot (Greek). In my opinion, this has always been an underwhelming filler. I believe the “band-provided-dj” understands they aren’t the main event. Once the band returns, the energy and theatrics shift drastically from the filler music.

If you decide to hire both me and a band, the experience will be completely different. When it’s my time to play, I come out swinging. Since I have a reduced set time, there is no warm-up period. Normally, when I control the whole night I nurture the set to create a smooth, organic musical build-up from start to finish. However, this isn’t possible, so we just come out and play hard knowing every allotted second I get counts.

You can think of it this way: my approach isn’t to be a “side show”. Rather, we are our own show, within the show.

Often in client meetings I get the feeling that grooms, specifically, have little interest in things like linen colors or invitations for example. I’m speaking from my own experience here so do not rip my head off for stereotyping. Also, for reference Zach was not one of these grooms. 

I also notice that by the end of our meeting, those who seemed disconnected from planning suddenly become engaged. We flip the switch, music is something that we can all level on. It’s refreshing to see everyone hyped on the details of what we do. Shoutout to the grooms, you are kind of the MVP’s

What is it called when photographers arrange wedding-related items—like cologne, cufflinks, and the bouquet—on an interesting background and photograph them? I think “layup” or “flat lay.” or something like that.  asked me if she could do one of those with some party stuff on the side of my dj booth mid-set, which I was down for. 

Although, one small slip and I risk my mix sounding like a guy who is featured on the .  But I like to live on the edge.

I don’t get manicures,  but if I did I’m sure the client relationship is similar to that of a barber. Going into a barber shop you hear it all, a great place to talk s**t.

Bariona owns a small business doing nails and was looking for vendors when plannnng her own wedding. I’m happy that the nail shop comradery is similar to the barber shop. Two of my previous brides (shoutout. ) referred me to her when getting their nails did. (Missy Elliott reference)

Every year a handful of my couples are from out of state. This year we are working with couples from Texas, California, Philadelphia, NY, and Florida to name a few. I only bring this up because I always wonder how out-of-state people find me. Imagine trying to plan an event where your starting point is knowing literally nothing about the vendors in that area. 

Ashley & Brian are from Texas and planned a wedding  on the Cape. People from Mass wouldn’t consider Cape Cod a destination wedding , but that’s exactly what this was for their people.

I asked Ashely how she found me. To which she just replied , just searching IG (along with some other vendors). I was happy to hear the algorithm works for me if you search things like “decent-Boston-wedding-dj” or something along those lines. 

Now for reference I don’t sponsor ad’s here or boost posts, nor am I on Wedding Wire, Knot, or Zola. My only marketing is posting s**t I think looks cool along with an honest original caption.

You’ll never know every song. Being a DJ exposes me to music I might not otherwise encounter. For example, Joclyn provided some Vietnamese songs that we played at her wedding.

When I played this track, Ed and I looked at eachother and said this song slaps. 🇻🇳
