KWACHA MUSIC AWARDS - REVIEW PART 1
Firstly we would like to acknowledge the consistency of this award show. In an industry where award shows come and go the KWACHA MUSIC AWARDS have been around for a while now and have been consistent - this year's edition being the most organized one and well thought out till date.
However, as always, categorizing artists and the music they make was a problem again this year. A few notable examples are Jemax's Mpawi being termed a 'POP' song instead of the Hip/Hop song is really is; Chile One's Nayo Nayo as a Conscious song - just because it's a slow heartfelt love song (are you kidding me?). Enough said about this.
Moving on to something more controversial, JEMAX managed to scoop SONG OF THE YEAR with his major hit MPAWI, but how does the song of the year fail to get BEST HIP HOP SONG OF THE YEAR? It goes on to win BEST MAINSTREAM/POP SONG. This looked like they were trying to accommodate another winner in the rightful category if you know what I mean. Chefy's 360 was and is a dope record but if you saw it winning over MPAWI then mhmmmm LOL.
Other talking points include ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS giving Muzo Aka Alphonso the BEST ARTIST NORTHERN PROVINCE. It's getting old now. He hasn't made a notable release since the 'Mama We' days but he keeps getting awarded every year. Is there nobody else from over there? How long will people throw a pity party over how good he was when he was with ALPHA? The rubbish needs to stop. We're all sad about him not being the artist he used to be but giving awards for it will not help.
In other observations, if Xaven is your BEST FEMALE ARTIST, as in the whole country then you guys are screwed. JC Kalinks-The Bluetooth. deserved his award, he has been working overtime and the same can be said for Rustar. Chile One MrZambia winning ALBUM OF THE YEAR is questionable and no this is not one of those times he is hated on for no reason, THE BOY FROM CHILILAND is just blessed mwe. So blessed that even Tianna has benefited from it. Mordecai zm went toe to toe with Yo Maps Yo , releasing one of his records alongside the biggest artist in the country and did considerably well. He deserved a bit more than just the BEST ARTIST SOUTHERN PROVINCE crown. Glad to see King Illest Worldwide not win it though because awe mwe.
