When the history of African football is told, one name that will always be remembered is Karim Abdul Razak, affectionately known as "The Golden Boy."
Born on 18 April 1956, Abdul Razak became one of the finest attacking midfielders Africa has ever produced. Blessed with exceptional vision, creativity, accurate passing, brilliant dribbling, and outstanding leadership, he was the heartbeat of every team he played for.
His greatest achievement came in 1978, when he captained Ghana's Black Stars to win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on home soil. His outstanding performances throughout the tournament earned him the African Footballer of the Year award, making him the first Ghanaian to receive Africa's highest individual football honour.
At club level, Abdul Razak enjoyed tremendous success with Asante Kotoko, winning domestic trophies and becoming one of the club's all-time greats. He also showcased his talent professionally in the United States, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Ivory Coast, earning admiration wherever he played.
He proudly represented Ghana for many years and also helped the Black Stars reach the 1980 AFCON final, further cementing his place among the country's greatest football legends.
