Oregon and Indiana play to a 3-3 Draw as the Hoosiers remain Unbeaten at Home
By Nick Jenkinson
The Oregon Ducks made their first trip to Bloomington for Women's Soccer and came away with a 3-3 draw with the Indiana Hoosiers Sunday afternoon on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Oregon was 0-3-1 in the Big Ten and sat in last place in the conference coming into Sunday’s match and had not score in conference play this season.
The Ducks came away with one point and are 0-3-2 with 2 points with six conference matches remaining and only the top 10 teams make the Big Ten Conference Tournament. Oregon moves to 2-7-3 on the season and just once big ten conference games since joining the conference a season ago winning at Maryland 2-0 on September 22, 2004.
Indiana moves to 3-4-4 overall and 0-3-3 in the Big Ten with three points and five conference matches and now the final six conference matches become critical for the Hoosiers as they sat in 17th place in the conference standings coming into Sunday’s match and stay in 17th place after this match. Indiana remains unbeaten at Bill Armstrong Stadium with 3-0-3 at home record. This is second all-time meeting between the two teams after Indiana went out to Eugene and beat the Ducks 3-1 on September 26, 2024.
Indiana controlled the first half and had two shots that came off the post, and the Hoosiers would get the opening goal in the 37th minute when Maggie Ledwith scored her third goal of the season and Natasha Kim got her first assist to give the Hoosiers a 1-0 lead. Indiana outshot the Ducks 8-6 with 3-1 shots on goal. Oregon Goalkeeper Caeley Goldstien made 2 saves and Indiana Goalkeeper Sally Rainey made 1 save. Their three fouls called in the first half with Ducks committing 2 and the Hoosiers with 1. Indiana had 4 corner kicks and Oregon had 1 and Indiana was called offsides once. Oregon’s Carys Hall was given a yellow card for unsporting at the 36:27 mark.
In the second half Oregon scored three goals in 9 minutes as Lauren Kenney struck first in the 55th minute, Jayde Holley in the 59th minute and Cailin Bloom in the 63rd minute as the Ducks lead 3-1 with Kenney and Taylor Bryan getting the assist on the Holley goal. Indiana got one back in the 69th minute when Jenna Chatterton, who was subbed on just seconds before found the back of the net for the first time this season with the assist to Kennedy Neighbors and the Hoosiers trailed 3-2.
The Hoosiers kept attacking as Caeley Goldstien made one save in the second half and made a huge stop on the shot in the 80th minute by Indiana’s Olivia Rush. Rush would not be denied as she rocketed a shot past Goldstien for her first goal of the season in the 84th minute as the Hoosiers got the draw and protected their home pitch.
Indiana outshot Oregon 16-15 and 6-5 shots on goal. Sally Rainey made a save in the second half and two for the match. Indiana committed 7 fouls, Oregon committed 6 fouls, and several players were down in the second half as the intensity and physicality picked up in the second half. Indiana had 8 corner kicks to 2 for the Ducks. Oregon was called offsides 3 times and the Hoosiers were called for offsides once.
It was a game that was dramatic throughout one goal in the first half and 5 goals in the second half. Indiana now turns its attention to archrival Purdue on Friday Night in West Lafayette. “There is one game that is always circled on everyone calendar and it's this one Friday Night at Purdue” Indiana Head Coach Josh Rife Said after the match. “There are going to be a lot outside distractions, and we cannot let those get in the way of the task at hand which is get three points at Purdue.”
