We mean well when we hear and say, “Just pray about it.” Rushing away and avoiding it reflects how we want to distance ourselves from what we don't understand and we don’t want to be labeled.
Yes, of course, pray. God is faithful and He knows how to let His comfort settle our negative thoughts and raging emotions. He's provided all kinds of ways for us to be available for each other, to help in our stressful and anxious moments, even when those moments are exacerbated by imbalance in brain chemicals. Even that can be eased with medication.
I know I've opened a can of worms, but someone has to do it. But I can’t have a conversation alone. Do you care about mental health and wellness? I believe you do. It's time to share your thoughts, experiences, and opinions.
Check this out: An overwhelming MAJORITY of people in the United States think the country is experiencing a mental health crisis, according to a recent survey from CNN in partnership with the Kaiser Family Foundation.
About 1 in 5 adults said they were often or always depressed or lonely over the past year.
Here’s what’s causing us stress: a third or more of adults say personal finances, current events, and political events.
About 1 in 4 adults also identified personal relationships and work as major sources of stress.
Whether we chat about it here in this Facebook feed or you open up to a confidante or find a therapist. Just open up. It’s undeniable, people all around us are deeply hurting. Even we are. Researchers say opening up and sharing the secrets you keep will offer relief.
So, when someone expresses to you their anxiety about difficult circumstances, there might be a reason.. Perhaps this is your opportunity to be available, trusting that in that moment you will be given what to say. You could also simply say, “Let's pray now.”
I won't stop advocating for mental wellness. Are you in?
