The Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes Podcast Greetings, friends and colleagues. Spanning 36 episodes and 5 movies, producer Michael Cox created a Sherlockian experience like no other.

And welcome to The Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes Podcast page – devoted to revisiting and honoring the world’s greatest portrayal of the world’s greatest detective. From 1984 to 1994, Granada Television produced what is arguably the best (and most complete) depiction of legendary detective’s Adventures, Memoirs, Case-Books and many Returns. This podcast will examine that timeless series with a specific eye on Jeremy Brett in the role he was destined to immortalize.

Today is Our Mycroft's Birthday. Charles Gray would have been 98 and is sorely, sorely missed. A magnificent actor whose career spanned many decades and many genres. We love and admire him, and for us he is THE Mycroft (honourable mention to Stephen Fry). So, right now, we raise a very large glass to this man and his superb sideburns and thank him.

We said we'd announce 5 this week but lets make it 6!

"The Professor, it was she"

Christopher Guard, Willoughby Smith in The Golden Pince-Nez, is joining us on the Saturday of Brettcon to discuss his memories of working with Holmes and Wat......Mycroft. Chris was a well seasoned actor when he got the role, having acted since he was a child, and he brought all his experience and skill to the fore as the unfortunate secretary of Professor Coram. We are delighted Chris is with us, and he will be delighted to meet all of you for autographs and photos, as well as appearing on stage to tell a few stories during his panel.

Let's do a few more crew announcements shall we? We are extremely excited to announce that Judy Popley, Ken Mair & Craig McNeil will all be joining us throughout the weekend at Brettcon.

Judy was an uncredited Production Assistant/Continuity on 4 episodes at the very start of the show. Working on A Scandal in Bohemia, The Dancing Men, The Speckled Band and The Copper Beeches, Judy was an important part of making sure every detail on those episodes were as accurate as possible. Judy was also married to Mike Popley, DOP on 6 episodes, and has plenty of stories to tell. Judy will be joining us for the PM Location walk, Brettcon and the Dancing Men reunion on Sunday and will be available for photos and autographs.

Ken Mair worked on the show as 1st Assistant Director on The Master Blackmailer and The Cardboard Box. Ensuring that every thing went without a hitch on set, every department were in complete alignment and any issues was quickly and swiftly dealt with was not an easy one, but was so important to the success of each episode. Ken will be with us on the Saturday, and will be delighted to meet you all for photos, autographs and questions.

Craig McNeil was the Production Manager for The Dancing Men and The Naval Treaty, and later came back to be a Production Executive on The Memoirs series. Now an experienced Producer both in the UK, on such things as Cracker and Prime Suspect, and in the US, having worked in LA on many projects such as the US version of Cracker, we are delighted to welcome Craig to Brettcon. Craig will be with us at Brettcon and at the Dancing Men reunion on Sunday, and will be more than happy to chat, sign autographs and take photos.

Come meet these wonderful people, and more, at Brettcon next month. Tickets can be purchased here: https://buytickets.at/thejeremybrettsherlockholmespodcast/1921947

Today we remember Bernard Atha CBE, Dr Carthew from The Dancing Men. Bernard lived to be 95, and passed away only a couple of years ago, having gone into politics. We only wish he was still around to join our Dancing Men reunion next month. But we remember him and for his role at Ridlingthorpe Manor, assisting Holmes in his investigation.

You may have noticed this already from our graphic a few weeks ago, but we felt it still deserved a post of its own. The surely Walker, from The Dancing Men, aka actor Paul Jaynes will be joining us next month at our Dancing Men reunion day at Leighton Hall. We hope Mr. Jaynes will a tad nicer and more congenial than his character was during the episode, in fact we know he will. We couldn't be more thankful to him for joining us. Paul will be available for photos and autographs as well, of course.

Tickets for some events remain at the following week, so please join us, it is going to be an event not to miss: https://buytickets.at/thejeremybrettsherlockholmespodcast/1921947

*** Brettcon Guest Announcement ***

We are honoured and privileged to welcome Anna Calder-Marshall to Brettcon next month. Anna played Lady Helena & Agnes Northcote in The Eligible Bachelor, a role that very few could have played with such warmth and empathy, and we can't wait to talk to her about her performance in this episode.

Anna was also the wife of David Burke, Dr Watson in the first 13 episodes, who passed away earlier this year, as you all know. We are extremely touched and humbled that Anna has agreed to join us for a tribute panel to David during Brettcon and will be talking to us about him, his career, and his Watson. This promises to be a very special moment for all who will be there.

You will also be able to meet Anna for photos and autographs on the day.

The second series of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes kicked off 41 years ago today with The Copper Beeches. With two well-remembered and beloved performances from Natasha Richardson and Joss Ackland and a vivid electric blue dress, this is a dark, sinister entry into the series. Full of uncomfortable moments that only heighten the tension and the mystery of why the young governess is paid so much to do the strangest things. If you don't like this one, we may have to release the mastiff!

The Copper Beeches - aired 25th August 1985
Director: Paul Annett
Dramatiser: Bill Craig
Producer: Michael Cox

Cast includes: Jeremy Brett, David Burke, Joss Ackland, Natasha Richardson, Lottie Ward, Patience Collier, Angela Browne, Peter Jonfield, Michael Loney, Rachel Ambler & Stewart Shimberg

*** Brettcon Guest Announcement ***

Unfortunately we have some bad news (good news to come in a minute). David Carson is now unable to join us for Brettcon due to work commitments, we are sorry to say. He is incredibly apologetic to all coming and disappointed he can't be there, and is already trying to persuade us to do another one so he can come next time. We wish David all the best with the work he has coming up, he has been nothing but supportive of us and we look forward to seeing him again in the future.

The good news is, to make up for this, we are going to announce 5 more guests this week, one every day, starting tomorrow with a huge one, which comes with a panel announcement also. If you haven't got your tickets, get them now.....

Today we remember the fabulous Peter Wyngarde, Langdale Pike in The Three Gables. His age is somewhat of a mystery, but some sources claim he would be 99 today. Sadly leaving us a number of years ago, he will forever be remembered as one of the most iconic actors of all time and he is one of our all time favourites.
