It often involves holding onto overly optimistic or unrealistic beliefs, ignoring reality or rationality in favor of what is more comforting or desirable.

This highlighted statement in this book is a clear case of wishful thinking. The universe operates strictly under the laws of physics and has no capacity for "knowing" anything.
