UFO Comics is delighted to announce the first win (technically, two wins) for our 2025 publications: "Life Lessons from a UFO Catcher, Vol. 2" and "Dad vs. The World," the next two books in Kenny Loui's creative nonfiction graphic novel memoir series, written by Loui and illustrated by Yamawe.

"Dad vs. The World," was awarded the silver medal in the young adult multicultural nonfiction category in this year's Independent Publisher Book Awards (AKA the IPPY Awards). Additionally, the "Life Lessons from a UFO Catcher" series was awarded the bronze medal for best nonfiction series.

Belated announcement because life has been keeping our team a wee bit busy these days, but we just wanted to break our radio silence to share UFO Comics' two new releases: "Life Lessons from a UFO Catcher: An Autobiographical Manga - Vol. 2" and "Dad vs. The World," debuting back-to-back on Valentine's Day and Dad's birthday (Feb. 15th). Both books are continuations of our original "UFO Catcher" series.

UFO Comics founder and graphic novelist, Dr. Kenny Loui, AKA UFO Catcher Ken, held his first book signing and author meet-and-greet event at River Lights Bookstore in Dubuque, IA, today.

A heartfelt thanks to the many people who showed up to lend their support and to River Lights for hosting the event.

Written by Loui and illustrated by Yamawe, "Life Lessons from a UFO Catcher" and "There is No Shrimp... And Other Lies My Mother Told Me" were recognized at this year's Midwest Independent Publishers Association - MiPA Midwest Book Awards. "There is No Shrimp" won for Best Graphic Novel and "Life Lessons" was a finalist. 🛸🦐💕

Author-signed copies of both books are available for purchase at River Lights Book Store. ✒️📖💕

Drop by to say hello, learn some "UFO catching" (arcade crane game) tips and tactics and anecdotes about the silly little white lies Kenny's mom told him as a kid.

We are delighted to share that "Shall We Dance?"--a short story and "teaser trailer" of sorts for a longer narrative written by Kenny Loui ("Life Lessons from a UFO Catcher") and illustrated Kachi Lee--has been published in "The Setlist II: A Music Comic Anthology" from Inservice Comics.

Although not a UFO Comics publication, we very much are supportive of our friends, colleagues and fellow creators in the indie comic space so lend our support in promoting this amazing anthology series.

These will be limited run prints, available for order only until August 31st. If you like comics and/or music, check it out along with all the other delightful stories from Kenny, Kachi, and fellow comic creators in this two-volume series edited by Nicholas Friesen.

We are delighted to announce that "Life Lessons from a UFO Catcher," written by UFO Catcher Ken and illustrated by Yamawe has been awarded a silver medal in the Young Adult Nonfiction category of the Nautilus Book Awards. The Nautilus Book Awards "celebrate and honor books that support conscious living and green values, wellness, social change, social justice, and spiritual growth." Previous award recipients have included the Dalai Lama, Thích Nhất Hạnh, and Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson.
