WHO IS DERYL MCKISSACK?
Deryl McKissack, CEO of McKissack & McKissack, leads the nation’s oldest African American-owned design and construction firm. As a fifth-generation builder, she carries forward the legacy of her ancestor, Moses McKissack, who was born into slavery and learned the building trade while working as a Brick-maker. Today, her firm has played a role in over $15 billion worth of projects nationwide, shaping skylines and communities while breaking barriers in an industry that has historically excluded Black professionals—especially Black women.

What was our favorite Met Gala carpet look? Of course, the 3D-printed one. Tech entrepreneur and philanthropist Mona Patel proudly represented women in STEM on the red carpet, wearing a custom Thom Browne suit complete with a 3D-printed hat and a robotic dachshund named Vector.

And this isn't the first time Patel has brought tech to the red carpet. Who could forget last year’s look, when she wore a custom Iris van Herpen gown adorned with kinetic butterflies that fluttered as she moved?

From robotic companions to 3D-printed accessories, Patel continues to find innovative, fashion-forward ways to spotlight her background in healthcare and AI. We love seeing the intersection of couture, technology, and unapologetic style.

🎓 It’s graduation season at MGA, and we’re proud to highlight some of our outstanding graduates and their next steps!

Shaynee Hogges is earning her B.S. in Psychology and continuing her work at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center as a Public Safety Trainer. Like many MGA students, Shaynee balanced a demanding job while pursuing her degree—and found growth, purpose, and connection along the way.

She shared this reflection on her journey:

"My journey at MGA was more than an academic experience; it was a turning point in my life. It gave me the confidence to trust my voice, the resilience to lead under pressure, and the heart to serve others with compassion. Every day as a Public Safety Trainer, I see the impact of that growth in the people I have the honor to guide. MGA also provided me with a full-circle moment where I was able to serve dual roles. Although still a student, I had the privilege of training MGA's Communication Officers (police dispatchers) in Crisis Intervention Team Training. As a Macon, GA native, this moment was especially meaningful. It was a reminder that sometimes the dreams you plant at home grow into something even bigger than you imagined."

Congratulations, Shaynee! We’re proud of you and excited to see the continued impact you’ll have in the middle Georgia community. 💜🖤
