FACT-CHECK: Did KMC Mayor Promise and Fail to Deliver Two Multi-Million Dalasi Projects?

In late September 2025, the Mayor of Kanifing Municipality, Talib Ahmed Bensouda, published a video announcing that his council had secured $450,000 (approximately GMD33 million) from the Mayors Migration Council’s Global Cities Fund (GCF) – to support small businesses for migrant returnees.

This sparked criticism from his opposition who pointed to an even bigger $26 million (D1.82 billion) project announced by the KMC Mayor back in October 2024. The critics highlight that the “failure of the billion dalasi project” is proof that Mayor Bensouda’s latest announcement can’t be trusted.

Gambians are to vote for a new president on December 5, 2026, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Chairman, Joseph Colley, said on Thursday as announced the West African country’s 2026–2027 election calendar.

The Gambia’s electoral cycle previously consisted of three elections: presidential, national assembly and local government elections. However, this time, the local government election will be held in two separate election days: one for Councillors and one for Mayors.

Why PURA Introduced a Data Price Floor for GSM Companies, Sparking Public Uproar?

It is not publicly known what the timeline is for the Government's Committee’s work nor has their terms of reference been made public after its establishment nearly two months ago.

With peaceful protesters arrested and prosecuted under obsolete draconian laws, many Gambians continue to view the price floor as a step backwards and from a human rights perspective:

- A violation of the right of access to the internet
- A violation of the right to access to information
