π¨π€―π¨π²HERE IS THE BRAIN-WRACKING MATHEMATICS THAT HAS GOTTEN CAMEROON INTO THE PLAYOFFS!
To qualify for the playoffs, Cameroon had to be among the 4 best second-placed teams. It has not been a straightforward calculation! CAF has officially announced that points against bottom sides in each group will not be considered in classifying best second-placed sides. This is in a bid to create fairness given that Group E has only 5 teams after Eritrea's withdrawal.
In this case, therefore, here is the classification NOW:
1- Gabon has 16 points (22-6 obtained against Seychelles) with one game left
2- Cameroon has 15 points (19-4 obtained against Eswatini) with all games played and +9 goal difference
3- Burkina Faso has 15 (21-6 obtained against Djibouti) with all games played and +6 goal difference
4- Niger (15 points) with +1 goal difference
5- DR Congo has 13 points (19-6 obtained against South Sudan) with one game left with +4 goals difference
6- Uganda has 12 points (18-6 obtained against Somalia) with one match left with +3 goal difference
π₯SCENARIOS:
As seen above, DR Congo will go above Cameroon will go above Cameroon if they beat Sudan at home. That pushes Cameroon down to third (provided Senegal takes at least a point at home to Mauritania in Group B).
Uganda will also go above Cameroon if they beat Algeria away by a 7-goal margin.
HOWEVER, Burkina Faso and Niger cannot go above Cameroon because Cameroon has a superior goal difference, and this therefore means in the worst case scenario, CAMEROON REMAINS AMONG THE 4 BEST SECOND-PLACED SIDES.
All this math comes in because Cameroon failed to win Angola at home.
