Who will win the F1 title in 2026?

Most are predicting either George Russell or Kimi Antonelli, but Lewis Hamilton is another and Max Verstappen has even entered the frame now

A lot will depend on the car and in particular in 2026, the engine. The FIA have said that Red Bull have the best engine, but it's clear that Mercedes also holds a big advantage over Ferrari

So the real question is, will Ferrari be able to upgrade their engine to match their chassis that seems to be one of the best?

Will Red Bull really be able to turn around their awful start to the season?

Or will Mercedes continue to dominate?

Audi have shocked the F1 paddock by introducing the first engine upgrade of the season

There's been an ongoing battle behind the scenes over the ADUO process, which is the F1's engine upgrade system for 2026 - Additional Development Upgrade Opportunities

It was privately revealed to the teams over the Monaco Grand Prix weekend that Red Bull had the best engine, which would allow Mercedes to have 1 upgrade, Ferrari & Audi to have 2 upgrades and Honda to have even more

But Red Bull queried this outcome with the FIA, adamant that it was in fact Mercedes who had the best engine and not Red Bull Powertrains

It was assumed that this query meant the whole process was on hold, so nobody was to upgrade their car, but Audi seemed to have upgraded theirs anyway

However despite this misunderstanding, there is no suggestion of foul play as the FIA have stated that their original decision stands until it communicates otherwise

But what would happen if Mercedes also introduces an upgrade and the FIA later decide to disallow them from having an upgrade?

It seems the most likely outcome is for every team to have an upgrade for this first round of the ADUO process, but time will tell what route the FIA decide to take

Lewis Hamilton just made history for Ferrari 👏

He's the oldest race winner since 1970

He shared the podium with all 3 teams that he's won for, which are the most successful teams of all time

It was the first all British podium since 1968

Almost every driver came over to congratulate him

Even Kimi Antonelli came to congratulate him, despite his disappointment at retiring from the race just a few minutes before

Some will say he only won because of the fortunately timed VSC, but in the end he won by almost a full pit stop, so it looked like he would win regardless

The question is, where does he go from here?

Can he really challenge for a record 8th world title up against the dominant Mercedes team?

F1 have just announced some engine tweaks for 2027 and beyond

First up, the fuel flow is being increased by 5% in 2027 and 13% in 2028, which should give the cars 50KW more power by 2028, which is about 67bhp

Alongside this, they are also reducing the amount of electrical power the cars have access to in the race by 50KW when they are not within 1 second of the car in front

And finally they are allowing the cars to harvest more power into the batteries by 25KW per year for the next 2 years

All of this should mean more combustion power when the battery runs out, more capacity to recharge and longer lasting batteries due to the lower deployment rate in races

It should also make overtaking much more likely since a following car has more power than the car in front

Superclipping will still exist, but the need for it should be reduced because cars can harvest more under braking naturally

A total of 6 drivers were penalised for speeding in the pits at Monaco, but it turns out their penalties weren't entirely fair

That's because the F1 rules simply state that "A speed limit of 60km/h will be imposed in the Pit Lane"

Every driver that was penalised actually stayed below 60km/h in the pit lane, so the issue seems to be with the way that the FIA measure the speed, rather than the speed itself

The FIA measure pit lane speeding with an average speed based on timing loops in the ground, which have changed slightly with the addition of Cadillac to the already tight Monaco pit lane

Where the drivers fell foul was they slightly cut from the 'fast lane' into the 'slow lane', shortening the distance they travelled, making their average speed seemingly go up

However, it's not illegal for drivers to cut across this line and in fact Hamilton (who was penalised) barely cut the line more than Leclerc (who wasn't penalised), as the attached images show

The FIA reportedly warned the drivers that this could happen, but if the FIA knew their measurement system could register false positives, why did they hand out penalties anyway?

There are 3 engine tweaks for the Monaco Grand Prix

The first is the introduction of new compression ratio tests at a higher temperature that you might recall was big news at the beginning of the season

The biggest complaints were against Mercedes, but Red Bull was also mentioned, so if those engines are pegged back at Monaco then you know why

The second is that teams might have been artificially limiting their combustion engine power, but they might stop this from Monaco onwards

The reason is the ADUO engine upgrade system introduced by the FIA this year. If a combustion engine is more than 2% down on the best engine up to the Canadian Grand Prix, then they are able to get some additional engine upgrades

But there is some talk that teams have been gaming the system - Mercedes could have been running their engine at a lower power level to stop Ferrari in particular getting upgrades

But similarly, Ferrari could have also been running their engine at a lower power level to try to get access to some upgrades

The next potential upgrade period is in 5 races, so it seems unlikely the teams will run their engines at a lower power for the entire season, meaning they could turn the wick up from Monaco onwards

And finally, for Monaco the FIA have introduced a lower speed limit for battery power

Previously the battery could be deployed at full power up to 290 kph where it starts to taper off, but for Monaco that has been reduced to 200 kph

The FIA have stated safety and it's thought that the top speed will be reduced by around 25 kph because of this. This will be around 10 kph down on where they were last year
