Reliable reports reaching Love News are that Nestor Mendez will be Belize’s new ambassador to the United States.

Mendez, who is replacing Ambassador Lynn Young, is an experienced diplomat who will serve Belize out of Washington D.C. Ambassador Mendez is a career diplomat in the Foreign Service of Belize, having served in various significant capacities. Notably, he previously served as Belize's Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS), and Non-Resident High Commissioner to Canada, presenting his credentials to the White House on July 28, 2008.

Prior to that, he held diplomatic posts at the Belizean High Commission in London, United Kingdom, where he served as Counsellor, and at the Embassy of Belize in Guatemala, where he was First Secretary. He also served as Minister Counsellor/Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Belize in Washington, D.C. from 1999 to 2007.

Most recently, Ambassador Mendez completed a highly successful tenure as the Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), a position he held for two five-year terms from 2015 to July 2025. As Belize's Ambassador to the USA, Ambassador Mendez will undertake a broad range of critical responsibilities, which generally include working to strengthen and expand diplomatic, economic, cultural, and political ties between Belize and the United States.

This includes facilitating trade and investment, promoting tourism, and encouraging educational and cultural exchanges. He is also tasked to ensure the welfare and safety of Belizean citizens residing in or visiting the United States, providing consular services, and assisting those in need.

Ambassador Mendez follows a distinguished line of individuals who have served as Belize's top diplomat in Washington D.C. including Edmund Andrew Marshalleck as the first appointed in 1982, followed by Henry Edney Conrad Cain, Edward Arthur Laing, James Vallencourt Hyde, Dean Lindo, James Schoffield Murphy, Lisa Shoman, Patrick Andrews, and Lynn Young. ////////
