And it comes at a time when consumer sentiment statewide is scraping a ten-year low and families are wrestling with rising costs for health care, housing, food and child care.

If you’ve never been to Plymouth’s Christmas in the Village, this is the year to fix that. Downtown transforms into a bright, close-knit holiday scene where the lights, music, food, and crowds bring out the best parts of the season. It’s lively without being overwhelming, and it’s one of those events where you can stay all day without spending much, thanks to the generosity of local sponsors.

Richland County landed in national coverage this week after Mother Jones published a story examining how Ohio communities are handling large wind and solar projects — and how residents here have challenged a countywide ban. The article, written by Kathiann M. Kowalski and originally produced for Canary Media, uses Richland County as an example of how local debates over clean energy are playing out across the country.

Welcome to A New Kind Of Local Media
You are looking at something new and innovative as you scroll the pages and stories on 1812Blockhouse.
Gone are many of the traditional methods of news gathering and sharing that have been the backbone of media for at least the last 200 years. Unlike almost all of the online sites that have been created to partner with traditional newspapers, and even new independent, online-only news operations that have appeared in the last decade, we’re different.
Different by design. Different by operation. Different than almost any other news site in the country (with the exception, of course, of our sister site, 1808Delaware).
A good overview of what makes us unique — what you might call the “secret sauce” — can be found here. In a nutshell, the main difference for Richland County news consumers is that they can now access a single site and instantly see more relevant news than anyplace else online.
This method puts the reader first, which is right where we think he or she should be.
If you have a suggestion for a news story; if you want to get the word out about an event or accomplishment; or if you have ideas on how we can improve the site, please send us an email at: [email protected]. We’re also going to be holding open office hours in 2020 at various locations in the county.
Thanks for reading!
